Here it is the situation:
one of my players blocks an enemy 2 dice against... let say that the result is Pushback Both Down

The bothdown it's ok for me, the push don't... Can I wait for my opponent to chose the result before deciding if rerolling the dice or do I have to decide now immediately after the roll had been done? Confused

It had been asked on the Italian forum and I wasn't able to answer that question... Question

I would assume you can await the opponents call first. You need to have a reult in order to reroll it, after all.

But why should he choose the both down result then anyway? Laughing

Maybe he's got Block as well and does not want to be pushed Wink Or it's for a push into the crowd ...

Not allowing a RR after i chose the result on a 2nd defenders choices is quite evil rules lawyering. Technically, i'd say you'll have to decide to RR first and then i'll decide which dice to pick from the final roll, but insisting on that order seems a bit too strict to me.

The result I've inserted are just an example... it was just to say that no Skull where rolled, becouse in that case it would be obvius what my opponent's choice would be... Wink

You got the point, Tim!
Me too I would say that, reading from the rules, the correct order would be:
- rolling the dice
- deciding if reroll them or not
- let the opponent choose the result

but it seemed so stric to me, too... that's why I'm asking you! Wink

Aramil,

My way of thinking would be that you reroll the dice once you know the result of what the dice roll is. Take for example diving tackle - this skill is used when the player has made a successful dodge, and the -2 will then make it unsuccessful. Once the successful dodge has been ruined, then they may elect to use a reroll (dodge or Team). So it is only once the final result has been determined that the reroll is used.

Therefore, the defender should have to to pick the result, and then the attacker can choose whether or not to reroll.

Just my 2 cents.

Good point. I was searching for an analogy like this and your argument makes sense.

Like Sputnik and Spazz I would have said that the defender had to pick the result before the attacker had to decide whether or not to use a re roll.

I'm on the side of the defender picking before deciding on wheter to re-roll.

I agree.

I noticed Ski Junkies doesn't do this though, and forces you to RR before the result is chosen. To be fair it only matters in a very small number of 1/2 dice blocks.

does it really matter? if you roll and one (or both) of the dice will knock your player over, your opponent is most likely to take that result anyway..so you know you are going to RR the result...and would you RR a 2db defenders choice if neither die roll was a skull (or a pow/skull if your player doesn't have block)?

I can see where if one die was PUSH and the other a POW/SKULL and you were blocking with a player that has Block and Frenzy...so the Pow/Skull is good, but a push will make you roll the block again.

There are circumstances where it will, yes.

i think you have to ask and wait... if you hit 2d and YOU decide not too push a sidestepper - and choose a both down then the result is rerolled after the decision... kinda would guess plays the same - but its pretty rare.

I'd rather see you re-roll first beore I, as the defender, choose the result.
No idea how to justify this decision rules-wise, it's just a gut feeling.
I think when you throw a block, it is you who want to achieve something, so it is to you to push your luck on some throws and deci whether to re-rollor not. Waiting for your opponent's choice before re-rolling is a bit petty (and cowardice) in my book.

I guess in your book the coward precedent is already set then...given that you choose after for the usage of skills on a good bit of time. Just off the top of my head the use of Diving Tackle, Mighty Blow, Piling On, and Kick are skills where you roll first, then decide on whether to use the skill.

This is really the same thing...furthermore I think it is a bit petty to say that others are petty for applying the same logic towards re-rolls that they do towards the usage of skills. You may not agree, but that doesn't make the other person petty or a coward for trying to apply consistent logic toward the game.

Just my opinion. -Rob

EDIT: One last note...given the fact that someone is throwing a 2D Down Block in the first place ...that pretty much addresses the coward statement.
