I was wondering how people feel about going to bloodbowl tournaments at conventions as opposed to those held in stores and such, so i thought i'd start a poll, why not? i love polls. Laughing

I like both ways of holding a tourney..they both have things that are good in my opinion. However, I voted that I like tourneys held at conventions best.

At a convention, there are other things going on. Especially at a big one like GenCon, where the 'event hall' (what most cons call a dealers room really) can be the main attraction for the whole 4 days if you want it to be. But then, tho Blood Bowl is currently my favorite game, I do like alot of other games and enjoy the chance to play a variety of things for a weekend. Basically, a convention allows me to get some of my 'gaming' fix in.

Having a BB tourney at a store is good (TKC2 was excellent) and very entertaining..allows you to spend some time socializing with Coaches from around the world after the tourney games (or before).

Neither conventions nor tournaments hold much appeal to me, and the store I go most often to (GW Cologne) doesn't provide any BB leagues, even though the game is "officially" supported in Germany (guess it's more nominal support than actual Mad ).

I vote other, because I've never been to a tournament in a convention

Same here. I don't think there even any tournaments held in conventions in the UK anyway.

see, in the states you can't hardly find a bloodbowl tourney not at a convention, so you have to pay a convention entry fee and a tourney entry fee every time you want to play a tourney.

I think there are advantages both ways.

At a convention you get more of a 'pass through' crowd - which might draw more people to Blood bowl, and an audience for a final.

At a convention you also get better vendors. This can lead to better prize support as well.

At a private/exclusive venue, you get a more Blood Bowl focused event. There is a better 'vibe', a more quiet or selective feel to the event, and everyone there has Blood Bowl on their mind.

Advantages either way. I like a bit of both.

I'd agree with Babs 100%. Con Tourneys usually cost more (unless the stand alone tourney is a GW one Wink ), have many more distractions, but usually more prizes at the end of the day.

Having nothing but BB around you at an exclusive event is very cool, very competitive, and a ton of fun! Bragging rights and stuff, ya!

I like them both as well.

Voted the same as Ember, Mordred and Darkson as I've never been to a tourney that was at a convention. It does make me wonder what it would be like; I could see it as either being a good or a bad thing depending how many other of your hobbies are represented at the event and how strong your commitment to these other hobbies are verses you commitment to BB... Confused

Still, over all it sounds a good laugh, are there really none like this in the Uk?

I voted other. I haven't been to a Blood Bowl tourney in this sort of venue yet, but I've been to a number of WHFB tourneys in licensed clubs in Australia, and have always enjoyed these most.

All the tournaments I've been to in Europe have been stand alone BB events. Often held in community centres (and the odd pub). Concentration of players helps get a high attendence.

In Australia (and presumably the Canada & US too) conventions rule the roost. So BB is played as just one system among many. Its nice to have all the stalls etc - and the extra pull looks likely to be vital to getting the numbers.

TBH I think I prefer the concentrated BB atmosphere at standalone tournaments - also I think they often offer better value for money as the organiser isn't making a profit either.

I've only played in 2 tournamnets. One was at a Convention, one was in a store.

I found the convention to be a little better, but not by much. While the tournament pretty much kept me from doing anything else at the Con, I probably wouldn't have gone to it if it weren't for the tourney. Also, in the breaks, it was nice to be able to wander and see what else was going on.

The store pretty much left you sitting around waiting for the next round to start. The store was also a little more crowded than the Convention tourney, but I'm sure if you had a big enough store you could get around this.

Finally, the Store had a cheeper entry fee, and it was located about 10 minutes from my hosue (rather than a 60 minute subway/bus/taxi ride)

All in all, I guess I'm on the fence, but forced to choose, it would probably be the con tourneys. Its close though, I guess I just like playing Blood Bowl and I don't really care for the venue.

(Although, these tourneys in Pubs that I hear about in Europe really sound interesting)
