Ok, so at the Philly Phrakus Zinak and I had to do a lot of explaining for his team name: The Juggers.

I was surprised at how few die hard BB players had ever seen The BloodBowl Movie, Blood of Heroes.

For those not in the know, BoH was an 80s B sci fi movie about a post apocolyptic world where the inhabitants play a form of football that you win by putting a dog skull on a stake. Of course there s armour and weapons and unbridled brutality so it s the closest aproximation to cinematic BloodBowl as you ll get.

Has anyone else who s seen the movie drawn the same conclusion? And for those who haven t, go buy the DVD (it can often be found in Amazon bargain bins for about $10).

Plus it has Rutger Hauer in it... the undisputed king of kick-ass B movies.

Blood of Heroes is possibly my favourite Rutger Hauer movie. However, all the positions except the handler on a jugger team use weapons, so it's not really Blood Bowl. Also passing is impossible since only the handlers are allowed to touch the skull. But the movie does get you wanting to make variant rules to simulate the action.

Not surprising to many this Goblin coach HAS owned a copy of the film for years and also reached the same conclusion that this is what the NFL should aspire to be! Laughing

And Rutger Hauer ranks in the uber-kool ranks of all time...though if I find him trying to hitch a lift I am so speeding out of there! Rolling Eyes

Great to know good quality football films are still watched out there. (And someone PLEASE burn all the copies of the remake of The Longest Yard Twisted Evil )

It has potential. The cinematography can't get much worse then the original.

The original cut of the film was called something like The Juggers. Blood of Heroes is apparently a trimmed down version of the original film that has never been available in the US (feel free to make a non-region specific copy of yours and send it over).

And it s still the closest we ll probably ever get to BloodBowl...

I think perhaps you are thinking of Tonga or perhaps South Africa a few years ago (when they couldn't beat anyone so just maimed as many players as they could). Now those are violent games.

I have seen that film (some time ago) under a different name. IMDB has "Salute of the Jugger" as the alternative name but I'm not 100% sure that's what it was called in the UK. It certainly wasn't called Blood of Heroes here.

Yes it was Salute of the Juggers in the U.K. and just a nice side note for you... youhad about 20 mins worth of movie that we here in the U.S. didnt get.

I made my ogre team the juggers and even made a nice dog skull ball for the kids to play with they can be seen at www.zinak.com.

Salute of the Jugger....

Watched that years ago. Saw it in a shop here for under £5 on DVD. Went to get some cash, and when I got back, it was sold, the onlt copy they had, and they couldn't order anymore. Evil or Very Mad

So somewhere in this little town, there must be another fan...
