I was wondering if someone might be able to explain to me where there appears to be parellel development of two Blood Bowl systems going on on the SpecGames BB board. It seems a little counter-productive, and I thought the guys at NAF might be the best to ask. |

The current LRB (4.0) is the one that has been tweaked yearly by the BBRC (Blood Bowl Rules Commitee), though this one is probably the last version of that ruleset.
The Vault, or PBBL (Perpetual BB League), rules are JJ decision to redesign the rules so that leagues can play perpetually (duh!) and allow starting teams in with experianced ones. The rules are being discussed by the community over at BB.com, with the intention for this t become the official ruleset in 2006/2007 (iirc). The original plan was for this to be a new boxset, but wheter this will happen after Fanatic's downsizing is anyone's guess.
To say the Vault has caused a little controversy amongst the online community would be an understatement. |

PBBL is a significant overhaul of the LRB. There is still due to be a new boxed set released in 2007 - but that's far enough away I wouldn't bank on it.
Effectively its a new major release of Blood Bowl - and about as different from the LRB as the LRB was from 3rd ed (not as significant as the 2nd/3rd ed transition). |

Still, it makes it difficult - especially for new players - because there really is no 'standard' at this stage. Whether it's online leagues, social games or tournaments, there's no clear cut rules set that's being used which makes life not only confusing, but discouraging as well.
The quicker the rules move to one standard - the better - without a doubt. |

I have to disagree....we have a current fixed set of rules, which is the LRB 4.0....the vault is Playtesting and not official at all. |

Of course, but you can't see where this would be confusing for new players? If you can't go over to the general forum at BB.com about once a week some confused newbie shows up asking what rules they are supose to use. |

Xtreme is right. It is confusing to people.
One of the problems is a lot of coaches don't really get the Living Rule Book concept anyway. It should just be called The Rules or something. |

Nah....that would be too obvious
actually to be honest, I rarely go on the BB.com forum. I just don't like it over there, some people are really annoying. |

This should settle everything
The Contenders
Quote: LRB 4.0 is a Giant Squid that fell through a Dimensional Warp, eats Rocks, emits Ultrasonic Screams, controls Human Thought and the Weather, and is Easily Confused.
Quote: LRB 3.0 is a Giant Blob that kidnaps Blonde Women, fires Rockets, has a mean Left Hook, lives beneath New York, and CANNOT BE STOPPED.
Quote: Blood Bowl Vault is a Giant Ant that eats Trees, has a Toughened Steel Skeleton, and is trying to Destroy the World.

Type in Jervis Johnson and see what you get.
None of the rules can stand up to Jervis on Strength.
Though they do fare better vs. the BBRC... |

LRB vs PBBL goes to LRB on two out of three.
http://thesurrealist.co.uk/monster.cgi?att=LRB&def=PBBL&a=S
I can only assume that a certain Games designer's refusal to listen to reason gives the PBBL such great strength, even though its really stupid.
With a bit of luck, someone will have a word with JJ at the BB this weekend. |

Thadrin> WHy do you believe the PBBL (Perpetual Blood Bowl League, right?) to be such a stupid idea, compared to the current version of the LRB? I'll admit to not having tested the rules myself, so I can't comment on how they perform. |

Dysartes, that's a really bad question to ask since you could easily start a war Generally other forums (notably talk blood bowl and the Specialist Games site)have been used to "debate" that question and the NAF has remained pretty much aloof.
There are lots of weaknesses with the PBBL rules - one of the main problems is of course that they are experimental so still a work in progress. For example, until quite recently the inducements (the new handicapping system) were far too strong making it advantageous to not develop your team and rely on handicaps to win your games for you.
Obviously people have differences of opinion over what the rules ought to be and a substantial number of coaches are very happy with the rules they play right now so don't want to see change either. |
