Re: comp as announced here, here's a place for you to post pics, give and recieve opinions, maybe post improved versions based on feedback, etc.

Good luck everybody, and most importantly, have fun! (Can't wait to see what you guys and gals come up with! Smile )

Announcement repeated:

Calling all budding artists out there!

One of the components of the tournament pack is going to be an exclusive NAF Champion's Trophy miniature, which is only going to be given to NAF sanctioned tournament winners.

So, we're inviting submissions of concept sketches/artwork to base the sculpt on.
Criteria:
Trophy when cast is envisaged to be roughly 2" or 50mm high.
NAF Shield ( or minimum NAF lettering ) to be incorporated somewhere.
*NB For legal reasons, it cannot utilise the words Blood Bowl or indeed anything else that is copyright GW, inclusive of any and all artwork they have published.

Closing date for entries will be 31th July 2005, after which point we'll run a poll (of either all, or the best few, depending on number of entries) to determine either an outright winner or at least some options to take to the sculptor.

Up for grabs for the winner(s) are a year's membership extension and a set of each colour dice we've produced to date.

Note that these are concept designs only, anything we produce based on them is obviously subject to change.

So here's your chance to get involved, we don't need hyper detailed pieces of art, so don't be shy about having a go if you've got a good idea but aren't that handy with a pencil!

Entries either to me at wodell.league@ntlworld.com, or post them on this thread.
Edit: Deadline is extended to 31 July 2005

Did the trophy gonna be a white lead miniature?

Just for concrete something about the design.

Is this going to be like a regular mini sized fig, ie, something you win and can use on your team? Or is it going to be a trophy miniature, like the ones GW put out for the majors a few years back?

I'm not really art talented, but I would just like to know. Maybe I'll draw a stick figure or something.

As the other thread says, it should stand around 50mm high, so something like the GW major trophies, just a little bigger and hopefully more impressive.

Bigger than the GW trophies? Gosh, those are big already.

I'd always fancied some sports trophy look rather than having a fantasy-thingy that looks like a prop from a Conan movie. The Football (Soccer!) World Cup always comes to my mind, but it already have been executed with the Albion trophy (still, the world Cup rules).

Not sure I'll have time to do a sketch with me going on holiday tomorrow but my idea is:

A large sculpted version of the NAF shield mounted on a wooden effect plinth as though it is just resting on it.

Other ideas are a traditional cup shape (FA cup?) with the NAF shield on the outside.

The second would be easier to sculpt but would use alot more metal in casting

Not sure about 50mm high. If it was all in proportion I'm not sure it would comfortably fit on a 25mm base, which I think should be the aim (so people can use it along side the GW trophies) I don't have any of the GW trophies but I'm guessing they are about 35-40mm high

This will depend upon cost but the original discussion have been that yes, past winners will receive one trophy - there's been no decision re: multiple tourney winners...

Last post for a couple of weeks, not going to get my sketches online before I go Sad

other ideas I had were:

a skeletal hand holding the trophy
The trophy is a spiked football helmet with the naf shield on the side
as above but the helmet is held aloft by a gauntleted hand
On of those cheesey trophies with a footballer kicking a ball, mounted on a tall plinth, but with a model makign a diving catch instead
A striped trophy to match in the the stripes on the NAF shield
A spiked ball (as in the NAF logo) on the top of the lid of a trophy with the simplified NAF shield (the one with the stripes on the top and no ball) on the side

All of these are just ideas if anyone wants to use them and come up with a sketch I wont mind.

For the record, you're pretty much spot on, the GW BB Trophy stands about 34mm, while the Chaos Cup is somewhere around 42mm.

Of course it's all subject to change based on design, but the thinking is that something on a slightly larger scale would allow more detail...
..so really, it's just a rough guideline..but we were leaning towards more 3e big guy scale..these things are going to be very limited and very exclusive. At the same time we're not intending to break the bank with a '16 tons of lead' mini.

So we'll see where we go, we might get a really cool tall and elegant design that may be 55mm, we might get something a whole lot shorter and more compact that may transfer to 40mm..

Point is to get the community involved, see what we get, see what the community thinks is cool, work from there....really, you're the oyster guys and gals...

Call me an old boring tart, but I still favour this:

If it's gonna be 55 mm it could be deatiled so it shows the Old world/Lustria Map (or Earth for IP reasons).

NAF plate on lower end etc.

Already been done, that'd simply be a bigger version of the Albion Coast Cup Trophy..... and we can't use GW maps whatever we call it.

Why not something more like a parody?

You could do a Heisman like trophy but instead of a human you could use a nasty looking orc, ogre, troll or goblin looking scared shitless!
You could have him running across the NAF shield.
