| You elitists in the Northeast make me laugh! What's wrong with Nashville winning the Cup, except that the establishment can still whine "the rules aren't fair....". A salary cap is what EVERY PROFESSIONAL SPORT now needs, as well as a cap on team value, ticket prices, and just about all the revenue streams - otherwise, no caps on anything and let it all go to hell... |

please tell any of the Lightning players f-t-f how the other teams "let" them win it... not sure anyone will buy that one....
you sound just like the typical 'founding' supporters found in every sport.... Europeans cried for years when the South Americans started kicking their ass in football.... US Basketball still can't recover to play the game any other way than NBA 'streetball'....
and I'd love to put the All Blacks in pads, give them six months to train and find a qb and some receivers... bring on most of the NFL at that point... |

Are we really comparing Martin St. Louis to Jackie Robinson just because the Lightning won a championship?

LOL...this trophy company is a riot...they messed up the nameplate for Voodoo now too. They are fixing it by COB at their expense though

That wasn't at all the comparison - the growth of a sport has inevitably found those initial teams struggling to maintain their dominance or excellence, and there is an accompanying cry, usually a minority of players and/or fans, who bemoan the 'good old days', esp. as the modern draft, free agency, and spending caps work in the name of 'parity'...
Jackie Robinson?!?! must be one of those six degree things....  |

All I'm saying is that the Lightning Winning the Stanley Cup should not necessarily be considered an evolution of the game...
Actually they are not even the most Southern Team to have won it...just the most recent. (See Dallas Stars)

P.S. On a side note...re your reference to the changing environment of the NHL. At the risk of sounding "old establishment", I hope that all of these rules to increase scoring and draw fans doesn't water-down the game too much. All that will do is alienate the core of fans that love the game the way it is(or was)...the NHL will never compete with the Big 3, so hopefully Bettman and Co. don't prostitute the game too much to woo the fans that will never come. (And this is coming from someone who loves Hockey.) |
