OK, I???m posting on behalf of my Hubbie, who is waiting for his user name to come through. As you might have seen from my previous post, we are pretty new to blood bowl, so go easy on us! We are going to the carnage 3 event in London in September. He is sending down a Chaos Dwarf Team and needs some advice???????????? I am thinking of the following roster:
2 Bull Centaurs
1 Troll
5 Chaos Dwarf
3 Hobgiblins
2 Re roll.
3FF

The progression is give 1 player Pro skill before the tourney begins (no big guy) I was thinking of giving this to a bull Centaur
Then after each match

Sure hands for a hobgoblin
Block for the other Bull Centaur
Guard for 1 Dwarf and the Troll
Tackle for 2 Chaos Dwarves

What do people think? Lets face it I???m gonna need all the help I can get! Any other Chaos Dwarf tips and strategies would be most welcome. Look forward to meeting everyone at carnage and getting a right royal kicking!!!

i'd probably drop the troll and 1 fanfactor for chaos dwarf #6 and a hobogobo to get a reserve, chaos dwarves are tough, but you will want a reserve for if you start losing the little buggers, and a troll isn't nearly as good as having all 6 chaos dwarsf really. other than that i don't have much experience with chaos dwarves, just agains them, but i'd really suggest giving one bull centaur break tackle

also the chaos dwarves start with tackle, so you probably want to alternate between gaurd and MIGHTY BLOW instead

your roster looks good, but sure hands on a bull centaur or break tackle on bull centaur are better choice of skills for the BC. CD's lose if they get pinned down or fail ball pickups. Use the BC as a ball carrier...he's your fastest player and st4 ball carrier is harder to take out.

ST5 guard will be tough to deal with and tough to take out.
Troll or cd and extra hob. both are decent choices I think. just whichever style you prefer.
No BG does give you a little safety with #'s and more reliability to move and block. I don't think it matters that much with RR ability since you only have 2 RR's.
I'm always a fan of the MINO over the troll personally as the Frenzy forces opponents to set up differently or risk getting crowd surfed.

I have tried Cdwarf in a tourni and found they are pretty solid compared to most stuff at 100tr. Good base for team 1troll 6 dwarfs for a decent scrim line, 1 maybe 2 bulls to blitz and threaten, 2-4 hobs to make up numbers and pick up the ball on offense, 2rrs only. Maybe the easy option but I would say go for a strength heavy line up as you cant go too far wrong with bashing and loads of block.

But general advice is counter to this point Sad
Just take whatever type/style of team you like and enjoy your games.

Yup, go with no big guy or use a mino instead would be my advice as well.

OK. Taking that on board I have decided to drop the Troll and go for the following:

2 Bull Centaurs
6 Chaos Dwarf
4 Hobgoblins
2 Re roll.
2FF

Skills, I will give the pro to one of the Dwarfs and then
Sure hands for a Bull Centaur
Break Tackle for the other Bull Centaur
Dirty Player for one of the Hobgobos
Kick for one of the Hobgobos
Guard for 2 Chaos Dwarves

What do people think of the new roster and skill progression. Also help needed on starting positions on both offensive and defensive plays. Any tips no matter how obvious would be a great help. I love playing Bloodbowl, the only problem is, I'm very bad at it! But hey ho, can only get better I guess.
Cheers

I doubt you will gain much from giving a Chaos Dwarf pro. He'll be 1 of 6 so chances are that he'll never be the one that needs the reroll anyway, not to mention the fact that Chaos Dwarfs are pretty reliable anyway. You'll be much better off with break tackle or block on the other Bull Centaur or perhaps another Guard on a Chaos Dwarf. You'll get to use these skills a lot more.

As you have only 2 rerolls I would also take sure hands as the first skill choice on whichever player you intend to be the one who always picks up the ball. It will most likely save you from having to use a reroll that you may need elsewhere.

Ok I get that. But if I give one of the bulls the pro skill I will not be able to give him any more skills for the tournie! Should I go for pro for one of the bulls and strip ball or block tackle for the other bull, therefore leaving the sure hands skill for the hobo??????.. Or??????.give sure hands to a bull like Gken1 said, and use him as the ball carrier. In which case, who do I give the pro to?...help!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Pro gives a player a personal team reroll that only works for him and only on a 4+. This means that it is very good for a player that can't use team rerolls (big guys) or for a player that may use up too many team rerolls that may be needed for other things (Vampires). It's not so hot for players that are already quite reliable or who have the use of team rerolls. Personally I wouldn't take pro at all. (By the way are you confusing pro with leader, which gives you an extra team reroll as long as the leader player is on the field?)

To decide what skills to give the Bull Centaurs you need to decide how you are going to play. If you want the Bull Centaurs to carry the ball for you, like Gken1, then sure hands on one Bull Centaur is a very good idea. The advantages of this are that you get a strong and reasonably fast ball carrier. The disadvantage is that you lose some front line strength and defensive capability.

The alternative is that you give a Hobgoblin sure hands and use both Bull Centaurs to escort him to the endzone. This gives you greater front line strength and allows you to devote your Bull Centaurs to hitting. And your rate of failing to pick up the ball is less than half that of the other play style. (1/9 failures for the sure hands Hobgoblin compared to 1/4 for the sure hands Bull Centaur.) The disadvantage is that your ball carrier is slightly slower and a good deal more vulnerable.

Personally I would give sure hands to a Hobgoblin and probably give either block or break tackle to each of the Bull Centaurs. But both styles are good and ultimately it is a decision that you need to make for yourself. I would suggest that you try a few practice games with all the skills you're planning to get (as though you were playing that last game of the tourney) and see which style suits you best.

Cheers dude,

It is the pro skill not leader. (You can give it free before the tournie to one player to be your captain but they can???t take any more skills). So by giving to a bull centaur (the best player) I would give loose out on giving him extra skills, but on the flip side I have only 2 re rolls, so this could come in very handy especially in the later stages of each half. I was planning on sitting back my bull with the ball and try and pummel the opposition with the block/tackle/guard of the dwarfs and then sprint through the depleted line with my bull guy. That???s the plan anyway. I am tempted to lean more towards sure hands for a bull, cos I am still quite new to the game and my cage tactics are a bit naf (no pun intended), so the hard and tough bull would make me feel better. Still undecided whether to give block, break tackle or pro to the bull. If I don???t give the bull pro I would prob give to a dwarf to give a reroll access for a decisive block assisted by my guards. Anyway I saying this make no difference as I???m sure I will get my head kicked anyway! (but enjoy it at the same time). Thanks for help and any more would be appreciated.

I'd throw PRO on a hobgoblin as they are the most versatile. I'd go with the BC carrying the ball strategy as well (sure hands) but thats just my preference.

Ok, now I understand why you'll be taking pro. I'd also recommend that you give pro to a Hobgoblin. You'll want other skills on the Bull Centaurs more and the Chaos Dwarfs are already pretty reliable at what they'll be doing, so the Hobgoblins have the most to gain.

It will give you a back up ball carrier or a player you can use as a catcher to receive hand offs, or if you're really pressed a thrower. It will also make him a nearly reliable blocker.

Ok, I now have my own username so I don???t have to use my wifes anymore (bunnygirl).

Thanks for all the advice so far. I think I have decided to go for the following:

I will give the pro to one of the Hobos and then

Game 1. Sure hands for a Bull Centaur
Game 2. Break Tackle or Block for the other Bull Centaur (I???m not sure)
Game 3. Dirty Player for one of the Hobgobos
Game 4. Guard for a Chaos Dwarf
Game 5. Guard for a Chaos Dwarf
Game 6. Guard for a Choas Dwarf

Its playing it simple, but I guess that will suit my playing style. I???m not sure whether to give kick or not or if my other skills are more important to a bashy style.

i like having kick early on if possible, but then it's what skill do you drop for it. probably the dirty player hobgob would be the best choice of an expendable skill in your line up.

personally as well i prefer to have my bulls as more defensive blitzer types that are secondary ball carriers rather than my primary option. yeah they're str 4 but they're also ag 2, sure hands is a must on him. also remember that they only move 6 just like most other players but have the option to go for it 3 times instead of 2. some people forget about this and think that they can outrun most teams, they carn't. i've tried that Rolling Eyes

otherwise your skill choices are pretty solid. break tackle just gives you another option to move the ball reasonably well. guard on chaos dwarfs is always a good idea. maybe even go for mighty blow instead if you want to wrack up the cas instead. hell this is carnage remember Wink

anyway that's just what i think, not that it means anything. i'll see you down there at carnage anyway and hopefully i'll get to play a game against you. still have to decide what team to take though Rolling Eyes i've narrowed it down to one of 22 Laughing
