Man Skaven Suck.

And Brian managed to do what Lucien Bouchard and Jacques Parizeau could never do.

(Little Canadian Political Joke for ya. Leave you to figure it out for yourself)

Team DC pulled out the win with the help of some early dominance. I believe 3 of them were undefeated after round 3. It got a little tight at the end though, making the tourny that much more exciting.

We ended up going with 4 teams of 6 since we ran a little short on players.
The teams were
DC
Harrisburg (Maffia)
New England (NY and Boston)
Philly

The 4 members of Team Canada were dispersed evenly through the other teams. Adding a little bit of something to each team, eh? Smile

On day 1 we did a team round robin with the highest points players in each team playing each other.

At the end of the day it was
DC
Philly
Harrisburg
NE

(not sure completely about Philly and Harrisburg).

On day 2 we did a semi final and final rounds. It was DC vs New England and Philly vs Harrisburg.

DC and New England tied (2/2/2 I think) and DC won the tie breaker. Philly barely beat Harrisburg (forget the record).

In the finals, DC and Philly tied as well (2/2/2). DC won the tie breaker there as well.

Brian will have to fill us in on the rest of the details

Yeah it was good format. Too bad we didn't get enough for 6 teams.

The DC crew had a great first day which stormed us out to a Huge lead.

The playoffs our top 2 players ran into brick walls with Skummy's Rat Ogre knocking himself down on his first 5 actions.

I just managed to save a tie vs Mo with a pass to a Bull Centaur. which was the difference between NY/BOston going to the Finals and Us. .....4+ roll in a team tourney on turn 8 of 2nd half.....incredible.

Vs Philly in the championships, they gave us a real run for our money. I was one of the two losses, with Cam trouncing me and taking advantage of bad dice all around on my part. The closest I came to scoring was a long bomb to a bull centaur.....accurate..dropped...He's a good coach and if you give him the openings, they will be exploited

I had lots of fun and it was great to see everyone again.

DC also took: Best Overall---Skummy
Most Cas--Me
Most TD--JB

so almost clean sweep on awards

A truly amazing run of good fortune for me.

My opponents were:
Dwarves (Dan, who wound up taking 2nd)
Lizardmen
Lizardmen
Orcs
Undead.

And my skaven wound up suffering only 2 casualties... all tournament!

Was very good to see the Harrisburg Mafia again, as well as meet most of team Canada. We had a very good draft with Peter to team DC.

Most of all, a fun format that's a good idea. One of the worst things about tournaments is having to play members of your own league when you go - and that just wasn't going to happen in this one. Made for a whole lot more overall fun.

Thanks Cyber for putting together a fun tourney! Had loads of fun and played some excellent players.

Looking forward to the next time and having a NY team represent!

So DC pull a win out of their arse with a double tiebreaker day 2. I should have said the team captains would have to duke it out to break ties.

Thank you to everyone who attended the event. Thank you especially to Team Canada who after traveling the furthest of anyone to attend the event were split up so that the event could run smoothly.

Since we only had 5 teams show up and no alternates we had to make a few changes to the format on the fly. Team Canada only had 4 players so I split them up with a random draw to each of the other 4 teams and we played 6 coaches per team. Since there were only 4 teams every team had played every other team after 3 rounds. That being the case I decided to turn Sunday into a championship elimination format round. They established team rankings with the Saturday round robin and 1st played 4th and 2nd played 3rd. It worked out well in the end.

A big thanks to Fat Cat Comics and Games for having us and offering everyone a 10% discount on purchases at the store for the weekend. I know some of you took advantage of that as did I.

We raised $120US for Team Canada an $120US for Team USA. I'll get the funds for Team Canada off to Ben the next time I see him. You US coaches are going to have to get organized and let me know who will be taking care of the funds for team USA. Of all the ways to raise cash for the World cup I think this is one of the best ways. If we can all get together and charge a few extra bucks for tourney entry it'll be a big boost in funds for the north american teams.

Having the tourney in Philly was, I believe, a good idea. It's a nice area, centrally located, and Fat Cat has very good air circulation. Always an important factor for a gaming store Wink

I'll get the tourney results posted ASAP.

Thanks again to everyone who attended.

After somebody invoked the "Bribe the T.O." rule and got my very inexperienced Amazon team Day 1 match-ups against Norse, Chaos Dwarf, and Dwarf.......morale was mighty low. Several members of the Valhalla Express took the "express" to Valhalla after that day.

Fortunately, Nuffle smiled upon the brave valkyries and they smote a tough Skaven team and managed an obscene amount of dodges (many on rerolls) to sashay past a very tough Undead team.

Final tally - 2W/2L/1T

Not terrible for my second tourny and only having 5 previous games experience with my ladies.

Lots of fun was had, it was nice to meet many of the people whose screennames/avatars were all I knew of them previously. Really looking forward to the Phrakus in May now!

BTW, will the NW Cup will be in DC next year?

Nope. its coming to Canada, as per the agreement to split up Team Canada. Book your tickets to Toronto as the New World Cup is coming north of the border.

Thanks to Brian for running things. The Comic shop was great, a little crowded at times, but there was fresh air, and the Saloon next door gave us a good place to go between games (where me and Ken got IDed for being strangers Very Happy)

Good to see some people again and meet some new folks down there. Had a good time despite my miserable play. I should have just came with a 7's roster cause thats what it was like for most of my games.

Where were you guys? I arrived at the bustop slept in some alley, I'm still in Philly (lost, wet, cold, & crying.... sniff) I'm at some internet cafe, lost my return bus ticket, & had my wallet & figs stolen while I passed out in the alley!

Can't really complain though I never lost, 0-0-0 record. Maybe if I start walking home from Philly now I'll be home in time to play in the Death-Bowl.

Rod.
