Hello all, quick question. In our game today I laid a block and got a push all 3 squares were occupied for my push two with players and one with ball. Couple of questions.
We just agreed I could push into square with ball, however it scattered one.
Then I had to try and catch it and dropped it because of surrounding tackle zones. Should I of lost my turn?
Can you push into ball? What are the options in that scenario.
Thanks |

you did the push right, and you can choose to push someone onto the ball, and the ball scatters before anyone can attemp to pick it up.
Also, accoring to the rules, if your guy doesn't pick up the ball, its a turnover. So yea, you should have lost your turn.
Also, if the ball moves into your square, you have to pick it up, (according to LRB 4.0) but I know there are some leagues let you not try to pick up a bouncing ball for fear of causing a turnover. |

I don't think that this is correct...
The push back onto the ball is definately right, but if the ball scatters back to the person who laid the block, and he does not catch it, it is not a TO if he fails to grab it.
At least I don't think it is. If a later player trys to pick up the ball of the ground later and fails...then that is a turn over.

I didn't think it was either, but I checked LRB4.0, and I think they need to clarify what they mean by "attempt" to pick up the ball
On one hand, when the ball scatters onto my player, he can try (or attempt) to pick up the ball.
I looked at the rule for Bouncing Balls (pg 14)
Quote: If
the ball bounces into an occupied square, then the player in the
square must attempt to catch it, as described above. If the player
fails to catch the ball, then it will bounce again until it is either
caught or bounces into an empty square or off the field.
and now, I just realize that it says "attempt to catch it." So I guess you are right, as you are trying to catch a bouncing ball, and failing to do that is not a turnover.
So, does this mean that a player with the Catch skill could reroll a failed attempt at picking up a bouncing ball that was scattered because a player was pushed back onto it? What about Sure Hands? I always thought that Sure Hands can help when the ball was originally on the ground. |

When you push back the square containing the bal is considered empty so in your case you had no option but to push back into the square containing the ball (a square is considered occupied if it contains a player, LRB page 11).
If a player is pushed back into the ball it will scatter, he cannot attemp to pick it up (LRB page 9).
Failing to catch a ball is not a turnover, see the list of turnovers: LRB page 8 and 63.
Whenever you attemp to catch a ball you may use catch, including bouncing balls.
When you attemp to pick up a ball lying still on the ground you may use sure hands. |

What?!!???
Catch skill For Bouncing Ball???
You sure??
I don't know... I've been in a few Leagues and Tournaments, everyone is wrong??
Catch Skill is for Catching Passes, Interceptions and Hand Offs.
Sure Hands is for picking up the ball on the ground... A Bouncing Ball is on the ground.
Dang it, now you have me doubting this. 5 Years of playing... Hmmmmmmm... AGBBLers and others please step in on this... I'm now confused... |

The guy has a pirouetting Santa in his signature...I was assuming that his "confusion" was pretty evident from that alone. |

<Sarcasm added here>"I don't know, my receivers with the Catch skill has used catch to try for a scattering ball, but I can't remember a bouncing one..."</sarcasm>'
Since this seems the case to my Commish Bampf, then my Lion Warriors are worth more to me now, then they did a few hours ago.
A few in our League calls me "Old Man", can I blame it on a senior Moment??? |
