there will be 4 DB games, so lots of practice time .

I like the support. I think the 3.5 minute timer would be good for the DB. It is a different style of play when your timed. Less time for negotiations.

Another thing we want to introduce this year is forcing people to declare their actions before moving a player. ALL ACTIONS MUST BE DECLARED. This includes moving, blocking, blitzing passing, fouling, handing off etc etc. This is to reduce confusion about what is going on and speeding everything up.

We are thinking of having a strict timer system on for the games. So at the set time the game just ends. Much more strictly enforced than at the CCKO this January Smile
There is also going to be a turn timer for everyone as well = 3.5 minute turns.
this is how I see the turns working.

Sounds awesome! The only point I would like to make is that if the time runs out, you PLEASE just say, "This is your last round guys!"... So that everyone at the table ends up with the same amount of turns played. There has been a tourney in my distant past that hosed me with a loss because time was called and my opponent got one extra turn than I did!

I won't miss 7s at all. I'm a fan of the new DB administration! Wink

Hahaha!

No hosing!

I think the only way to deal with the "last round of turns guys" thing is to say 15 minutes before the end of time that there is one more turn each. That way we end on time and everyone should get an even amount of turns. However, I would hope, with the timers that we should finish a lot of the games within time. Especially with turnovers and people running out of players as the games progress, combining to happily shorten turns!

Are the special rules for Ogre teams up yet? Or is that coming later? It's unlikely I'll bring Ogres - I'm just curious....

We havent really put the rules up yet. I will say that we think you can make a good ogre team with the rule set we are thinking of.

Unfortunately I will not be able to make it out this year. My good friend is getting married at that time. It was pretty much a craps shoot if I could make it anyways. Would have loved to come out, as I have alot of history in the ottawa area, not to mention the tail I would have gotten. Damn shame!!

Anyhoo, good luck in the tourny, Gents.

Joe,

So is the date now set in stone? I need to know 'cuz my whole custody thing is at the point of ugly now where the lawyers are the ones who need to set up the visitation schedules. I would love to come, but need to make sure that I can arrange the time off.

Sounds fun. I'd like to come.

Is lunch and dinner being provided?

Twelve hours of Deathbowl seems a bit much for one day.

Glad you like the sound of it.

Yeah we want to provide the meals on day one for sure.

You might be right about 12hours being a bit of a marathon. "Normally" there would be 4 regular games on day 1 totalling 8 hours theoretically. Maybe we should think about 2 DB games and a regular BB game on day one and a final deathbowl game on sunday.

Make the first game a regular game. And make it a challenge game, so people can call out another player who they have never played before.

It might be workable to do it that way and to ease people in. Although I think a random first oponent might be better, with 'seeding' to prevent people being drawn against folks from their local leagues.

re the times I favour an earlier start but maybe we could do 1 regular and 2DB games on day one. I know Cramy has been trying to persuade me to do this for months Sad

I wonder if we could fit in another regular game on day 2... probably not.
