a square with the ball is always treated as an empty square except for the fact you must attempt to pick up the ball when you enter the square
so Q1.yes
Q2. yes (you must attempt to pick up the ball if you enter this square) |

continue with that .....
I am trying to picture this in my head so beer with me (suds ole suds form me and you .....)
you are in square A
next to you is square b
the square after that (in a line) is square c
and after that is square d (the third square from you)
can you leap from square to square d?
if not:
why leap to square b? is this so you don't have to dodge into x number of tackle zones
such as
you have you cage that is a 5 star pattern
to move close to the guy with the ball you must move into 3 tackle zones (usually dodging)
if I understand right you can leap to that square with a straight agility roll as opposed to dodge (-2 overall) and then wack the guy with the ball?
and if you are leaping one or two squares it is 2 pips of movement? |

From the Rulebook:
A player with the Leap skill is allowed to jump to any empty square within
2 squares even if it requires jumping over a player from either team.
So the simple answer is: "no" they cannot jump to square D as it would be three squares away, the maximum is two.

-as you suggest - it may be useful to avoid a dodge roll or even entering (and then having to try to leave) a TZ that has tentacles.

Again from the Rulebook:
Making a leap costs the player two squares of movement.
A leap is two squares of movement regardless if you are jumping one or two squares. |

Actually not this one. Tentacles explicitly says that it works on Leaping players. |

Yeah, that is what I meant when I said that you would want to avoid entering (and then having to try to leave) a TZ that has tentacles . By leaping over the TZ of the player with tentacles, you can avoid that risk altogether by never being in their TZ. |
