Well planning for this tournament in Cambridge (UK) is well underway, and all I really need now is an idea of numbers before I go ahead and start booking stuff.

The current plan is for a 2 day tournament, comprising 6 games, held on the weekend of the 20th/21st September in Cambridge. Initial estimates for the price of a ticket is £25 for NAF members and £30 for non-NAF members. Your money will go towards the main prize (which is stunning - I will post a pic if enough people are interested), the "lesser prizes" and a special tournament free gift for everyone who attends.

I am also trying to sort something out with the Hungry Horse pub over the road to try and maybe get a discount on lunches.

It looks like we may be limited to a maximum of 50 people in the hall.

So c'mon folks, either mail me, reply to this topic or vote in the poll to let me know. I'll be advertising this in local gaming clubs & GW stores too to try and get as many as we can...

EDIT: POST HERE OR PM ME TO RESERVE YOUR PLACE! YOU CAN ALSO MAIL ME david.candlish@convergys.com

PLACES LIMITED TO 50!

I voted "couldn't guarantee it". It would be nice, but I'm visiting relative in Norway the month before. It is an expensive place, so I may have no money left. I'll get back to you early September, or perhaps Games Day, if it becomes a "yes definitely".

Oh, and if you could post the likely cost of accommodation that would be helpful.

A friend would definatively be up for it if their PhD is finished. Possibility of one other as well. Good luck with it.

Well to get it to work I think we need 10 NAF and 10 non-NAF to go. Currently I think I have managed to get about 6 or 7 non-NAF people interested, and I will be mailing posters to the local GW stores and gaming clubs to try and drum up some interest.

I'm also making a pack to send to interested people, and I'll post it when I'm done.

Sounds v cool, I'd love to come along but am not sure exactly what I'm doing at that time....

I will PM you or email you (hang on, isn't that the same thing??) a bit closer to the time if I can make it to see if you have space left...

Well interest offline is pretty high - I have firm "Yesses" (a word?) from loads of people in the store at Cambridge, as well as some from the gaming club whose hall we'll hijack. Since we need, by estimates, 10 NAF and 10 non-NAF to make it do-able we are almost there if everyone who has expressed an interest turns up.

If anyone would like a sneak preview of the full colour information pack that will be sent out, please email me. It will have a pic of the main prize as well which IMO is simply stunning. In fact, I might try and post it here...

and here it is:

What's more, the winning coach actually gets to keep it. Nothing pisses me off more when you play for a great trophy but don't actually win it and only get a cheap one in return.

Hopefully you can see the fairly high cost is justified...

I have to say that the red x is looks quite tempting, but unfortunately a trip to the UK is beyond my financial capabilities at that point.

Shocked

Damn. That trophy would look very good on my mantlepiece. Are you trying to raise the stakes?

Now, as Cambridge is commuteable I may manage to wrangle it.

Oooooh! Shiny.

How big is it, and will you be engraving anything on that little silver plate?

it's 6.75 inches tall, not including the stand, and yes there will be something engraved on the plaque. However, since I wont know the winner before the tournament (obviously) it'll have to be something fairly generic, such as:

"Cambridge Carnage"
Winner 2003

unless you can think of something better. I wanted a good prize worth paying to win, as I found it really annoying when they said Tarra wouldnt keep the blood bowl. Sure, it may raise the price of a ticket but at least you can keep it at the end if you win.

Now you can see why I am so excited about this tournament, I'm spending every waking moment thinking about how to do it!! The biggest issue is the gift that people get for attending, but Mordredds opinion that he doesn't really want anything like that is kinda making me think again!

I liked the mouse mat idea too Sad
