How do you paint stripes? Do you put a fine black line between them? Do you highlight each individual stripe?
Can you link to sample models with stripes?
Thanks to all in advance! |

I usally pant the darker color in smaller stripes then the lighter color.
Then I add very thin stripes next to the dark ones with a diluted version of the dark color (50/50 mix of water and the color). You can also apply a dark wash in the middle of the dark stripe and a lighter version of the lighter color for additional highlights.
Painting black thin lines in between the stripes just makes the model look strange and not natural, according to me at least
See the example... no highlight just the first thing.....

I often work with technical pens when I'm working with stripes. Problem is that technical pens tend to use water soluble ink. Which isn't a big problem, because this means that the ink will clean away easily if you make a mistake. Black is the most common pen used, but I like to use a pen ink that is similar to the stripe color I'll be applying. So I have 0.05mm pens in black, red, blue, green, and purple. Very handy for doing fine detail work on a Pro Elf team.
Paint the base layer a light color.
Spray matte. Thin layer.
Draw the lines with a technical pen.

disagree entirely.. I leave the darkest shade separating the colours, and I highlight each stripe individually to take full effect of the contours of fabric.. see below for examples.. stripes started out dark and then highlighted up from there...

I agree with Norse - gives a more dramatic contrast and is easier to clean up small flaws as you work. BTW the yellow+blue looks really good on that cheerleader - nicely handled |
