Hey, guys. Not to hijack Rod's tourney thread but I'm doing another group order from Impact Miniatures. We'll get 10% off the entire order and 20% of the pre-discount price goes towards prize support for my tourney in November. If you're interested, send me an e-mail to blingtoof@engler.ca and I'll order your stuff for you and we can work out paying me back. For those in the Toronto area I can meet up with you at some point and anyone else can pay me back at The Warpstone Cup.
I am putting in this order on 1-AUG-2011 so you need to get me your order by THIS SUNDAY!!!
The 10% off is for anything on Impact's website except the Fantasy Fields gaming mats and Monny's Mortuary dugouts and scoreboards (you can still order those, just at full price). |

Ok, there will be some format changes to the tourney this year. I have had some folks tell me that the time factor & the 2 team method was a concern. Yes there are those that love the 2 team system, but more have had the feeling a 1 team system would be preferable.
So that being the case I can speed up the format by making it one team.
Also Eric who has been my stats God with the computer may not be able to attend this year & I'm basically useless with a computer if its not a video game.
Plus theres a tournament system I have been working on over the last year or so & got all the kinks out, & its more the way I had orriginally planned for the Warpstone Cup.
The tourney will still have the Warpstone Tokens in use, & the modified Kick Off table will still be used. Skill progression will be exactly the same....
1 random player gets 1 randome roll before game 1
3 random players get 3 random upgrades before game 2
3 random players get 3 random upgrades before round 3
from rounds 4 through 6 your team does not improve anymore.
If People still want the chance of getting inducements, they can register a 1,000 TV or 1,100 TV team. if everyone registers the 1,100 team thats cool, but the option not to is there.
There will be 4 pools & the 1st 3 games will be played vs your own pool. games 4 through 6 will be play off games (top two teams in each pool go through to playoff, bottom teams play off vs other bottom teams of other pools)
With this system, although rare, there is a chance you may play another team twice, but if the rematch is for the Cup it could be a revenge match!
I have play tested this system it is very easy to put together, I have myself & 2 others as the 3 odd men out (system like the Death Bowl, needs 3 oddmen out)
It will work with any number divided by 4, (4,8,12,16,20,24 ect)
Theres no need for using computer to work out matchups as it is based on a world cup soccer/rugby format.
Trust me this is a great system & it will be a great time, seeing who will be this Years Warpstone Cup Champion! |

I like the one-team playoff format so far. How will you be making the pools for the round robin? Will you have a draw, or will you organize them by region, or will you split up players so that no two people from the same region will be in the same initial pool?
If you divide the pools by region, there could be a city/East vs. West rivalry that begins as the top coach from each region plays each other. It would be similar to the old NHL playoff format. This could prove interesting in a couple of years similar to the Lakeside Cup. |

I'll miss the two-team format as this was a great way to try out a new team without having to slog through six games. That being said, I'm sure the new format will be fun. |

For the 1st Year it will be random draws for pools, but I'm looking for next year, the top 4 places from the year before being the top 4 seeds (each in one division & the rest randomised. |

I do understand this, but I had many requests to do tourney with one team format, plus one team with 7 upgrades means only 7 choices, 2 teams with 7 upgrades means 14 choices, so as far as time managment one team format makes sense .
There are those like You that like the 2 team format, but I have heard from a great deal more that would prefer the single team system.
This tourney has evolved a bit over the years each change so far for the best, I do belive this next change will be for the best too. |

No worries, McGristle! It was an observation, not a criticism. I'll be there regardless of the format whether it's one team or two teams! |

extra time is only an issue in games 4, 5, 6 (& only with the top 8 teams) & in overtime only unused RR's from 2nd half are available. |

I second that, I thought the 2 team format made this tourney stand out from the rest. I also ended up playing two teams that I had never before used in a tourney. I'll be there either way, but I really liked the two team idea. |

Agreed, I'll miss it
Rod, do you have a tentative time on the first game on Saturday? We are thinking of driving up that morning since its a short trip and it would allow another guy to come. |

Two teams was fun, but I can see the problem with logistics and time if all those skills upgrades had to be accounted for. I am curious to see the playoff system and think it would be awesome. The knockout stage and final game become very important. Nice thinking Rod. |

Well I'd like to start 1st game no later than 9:30 am , but would prefer 9 am start , what time are you looking to arrive? |

The main reason for switching from 2 team to 1 team format, is to speed up delay between games. (packing up one team unpacking another, picking 14 skills opposed to 7, keeping track of 2 different roster sheets opposed to one, all little things but when put together can eat up more time).
But if after this year the time does not speed up a great deal, or there is a much bigger request to bring it back the 2 team format i will. but again i'm just acting on the voices of many who expressed to me the time issues with the 2 team format. |
