Hello,
We had an odd occurance happen the other day in our league, and I thought I would see what everyone thought.
1. Ball scatters into corner of board (in the endzone at the far end).
2. Ball then scatters again, on a diagonal into the crowd.
How should the throw-in be resolved? |

That's a good one. Just pick one. Did you know that the ball is actually thrown in from the sideline right next to the square it scattered from and not the imaginary square that it scattered to after the bounce? That means that it's either thrown in from the corner square from the sideline side or the endzone side. I'd throw it in from the sideline but that's just me. I give the sideline preference over the endzone OOB line because that's what's written on the template. No real reason other than asthetics I guess. |

we solve it this way:
1-2 along the sideline, 3-4 diagonal, 5-6 along the endzone |

Banelord's solution is probably the best - since it gives an even distribution. Officially I think you are supposed to put the throw in template "facing the opposite sideline" - but it does not adequetely cover endzones, let alone corners. |

There are no squares outside the pitch. The ball goes out of bounds next to the last square it was in on the pitch, not a square diagonal from it. That said, the ball isn't sitting on the point of the board. It's sitting right next to the square in the corner, either on the endzone side or the sideline side. You'd line up the template with whichever one is decided the ball is on, either due to direction of bounce or league preference.
You can do it some other way, he asked for our thoughts, but it also looked like he wanted to know how the rule actually worked. The way I described above is how it works. |

I have a follow up question on this subject. I know how you place the template the question I have is what is the first square do you count. The way the rule is worded is confusing. It says you start on the football. Now do you start counting on the foot ball on the template Hence the first square would be the picture of the foot ball on the template. or do you put the ball on the picture of the football on the template and then start counting from there hence not counting the picture of the football on the template? |

The square with the picture is square one. So if you roll a four for distance, the ball lands in the wide-zone. if you roll 5 it lands just outside the widezone.
I think the picture in the rulebook illustrates this, but I don't have it at hand. |

That is what I thought Mepmuff. Do you know where you can find this explanation in the rules? Under Throw In it just says to start on the foot ball. That is not a clear statement. I had a discussion and they took it to say that statement says you do not count the picture of the football. I need to find what you stated in writing some place. Thank you. |

Page 12 of the CRP:
Quote: Use the Throw-in template to work out where the ball goes, using the last square the ball crossed before going off as a starting point (see page 3 for how the Throw-in template is used to throw-in the ball 2d6 squares).
Page 3 does not exist in the CRP anymore I believe
Here's what it used to say:
Quote: To use the Throw-in template, position the square marked with the ball over the last square the ball crossed before going off, with the centre arrow (the one marked 3-4) pointing towards the opposite sideline. Roll one D6. The result will show the direction the ball travels in. Then simply roll two D6 to see how many squares the ball will travel in that direction, counting from the square marked with the ball as the first square.
Having page 3 would help. I think they might have added it back into a less frantically expurgated copy of the CRP. If not, it's in LRB5. |
