If my tournament qualifies, I don't see any issue with being part of ECTS. |

Yeah, it definitely does. You're added to the list. Just please be sure to post the final standings here, including NAF IDs and team types. Thanks. |

It's just something that becomes a default choice, (at least at Ottawa events), so for spice, we said, "If everyone takes it, why not say no one can and bring the cost of a reroll back to team price".
As opposed to larger discounts for teams with more expensive rerolls. |

The problem with no Leader: It punishes teams with expensive players, and favours teams that can take strong starting rosters that are strengthened further via cutting a reroll for a positional.
(Possible) Solution: Make Leader available, but only as a Normal Skill choice. Gives more incentive to take players with P access, and naturally fits more in teams that are more likely to actually need Leader. |

I'm with Mike on this one; I've never understood the issue with Leader. It certainly doesn't strike me as any more broken that putting Dodge on an orc blitzer or Guard on a dark elf.
Plus, there is some risk involved. At the World Cup my zombie Leader was killed by a rock on two occasions, one coming before a single turn had been played. My dark elf runner with Leader has been targeted and killed before he could release his reroll more times than I could count.
Is it possible that the dreaded halfling lobby has gotten to you guys? |

Historically, most tournaments here that disallowed Leader had a fixed TV build. You get 1200 and can spend it on players or skills. That in fact favours cheap teams with expensive rerolls like Undead or Chaos Dwarves.
I agree with you that this is less of a problem in skill set tournaments like the world cup. |

In complement to JTB's answer:
The leader thing got implemented because I sorta abused the system : with chaos dwarves (chaos cup 2012) I took leader (30k) + 2 skills for the price of a reroll. same with undeads at another tournament.
In Europe (world cup), you dont get money for skills, you just get a fixed number of skills, so there is no way to "save on rerolls by taking leader so you can buy extra skills".
You guys like money too much, you don't like "skills", you prefer "20 k Gold"
Frostmane suggestion would work though, as the abusers are mainly Chaos Dwarves and Undeads.
PS: Trash the appartment !
Edit: Stimme you're so fast !
Edit 2: Other explanation: The way Hickling plays clearly show a lack of leader |

Time for me to weigh in on this conversation, being the tournament organizer and all. So last year I made it so that any skill may be chosen a maximum of 2 or 3 times. This year, after playing in some other tournaments, I thought I would try a different restriction. Also, through conversing with JTB about a team build for a different tournament, we observed that most/many people took Leader at this other tournament. So I pretty much made this decision for everyone this time around. After all, I am organizing this tournament, in MY apartment. You want to take Leader? Host your own Apartment Bowl.
So the only reason I did it was to see how teams will look without Leader. It's only 3 games over one day, so I didn't think it would be that big a deal. Were the tournament 5 or 6 games over 2 days, I probably wouldn't keep this restriction. Next year, I will most likely do something else. Maybe. You'll just have to wait and see. |
