Following on from the human tourney thread...
I'm considering taking either a wood elf or human team to cambridge (depending on whether I can get my w.elf team back in time...)
my thought for a w.elf team is:
1 WD
2 catchers
1 thrower
7 l.elves
1 apth
1 TRR
2 ff
though I'm not sure if I should trade in the apothocary for a much needed extra re-roll.
I've not had much chance to think about which skills to take during the tourney. My initial thoughts were: 1st kick (l.elf), 2nd strip ball (WD), 3rd sure hands (thrower), 4th&5th block (catchers) or maybe pass block for l.elves. Any recommendations? |

I wouldn't take a thrower. Instead, I'd go for:
1 WD
2 Catchers
8 Linemen
2 TRR
4 FF
Alternatively, dropping a TRR and getting more strength in depth...
1 WD
2 Catchers
9 Linemen
1 TRR
2 FF |

My problem with dropping the thrower is that I'm already short of re-roll skills, and trr. Wood elves are great when their accurate, but with my dice rolling and love of rediculous plays I'll be finding it very difficult to survive on only 1 trr per half.
I'd be inclined to agree with Darkson on the trade-off between taking either a line(man/elf) or an apothocary for saving those ever-so fragile WD. But I'm undecided on whether it's best to have an extra trr for each half, or to try and keep my WD alive for a little longer...
I'm half tempted to use the setup I used for our league:
3 catchers
8 l.elves
3 trr
2 ff
Though this line-up does rely over heavily on scoring one more TD than the opponent. Haven't managed to beat either of our two skaven teams with this team (although I managed to draw with the 2nd team). Won all the other games though |

Skill recommendations:
* Dodge on a Lineman
* Dodge on a Lineman
* Dodge on a Lineman
* Dodge on a Lineman
* Dodge on a Lineman
* Dodge on a Lineman
If you insist on messing with this, try Sure Hands on the Thrower and Strip Ball on the Wardancer. But most tournament teams will keep the ball in the hands of a player with Sure Hands, so I'm not certain this is a great strategy.
But Dodge across the board? You'd solve a lot of problems with that.

WE can certainly never have too many players with dodge

So Strip Ball would encourage my opponents to keep the ball with throwers and runners, and away from those pesky blitzers and st4 players? Sounds like a good reason to take it
Think I still want kick as well, it'd be handy for running rings round slow&strong teams. |

Not necessarily. It just means the ball will stay in that player's hands for one extra turn. When your opponent sees an opening, he'll give it to the blitzer (or whatever) and score.
Kick sounds good, but it is sometimes a one-shot deal in a tournament. If I kick to you and mess up your kicker on the first drive, what good is he? It won't help him in a block, that's for sure. I'm not saying it's a bad choice, but take it early (if you're going to take it) so you can get the maximum use out of it.

Team I'd take
2 WD
1 Catchers
8 Line elves
2 TRR
1 FF
Skills
Kick on a line elf
Strip Ball on a WD
Tackle on a WD
Block or dodge on line elf
Sidestep on catcher
Kick is, IMO, an absolutely vital skill for teams like Woodies. Otherwise you don't stand much of a chance against bashing teams. |

I agree,
Also consider taking Pass Block on your catcher, that'll make for a nasty surprise (if you get to use it). Anyway, two pass blockers and one deep ball can seriously disrupt any bashy team |

kick usually helps alot- the more control you get over the game the better!
Against slower teams you can kick deep , swarm in and prevent him from forming a cage. |

In a tournament environment where you are only getting 1 skill per game, and only 6 games to play, Pass Block is a luxury you can do without. |
