5 DB game? 3/3.5 turn limit?
why you want change a winning concept !? Brian tourney was very great..

for my part a final DB game is enough ( the board scrap the paint of my players )
sure i don't have play on the 1st table..

set a date, I be there !
(13-14 oct.?)

The Tournament date is the 20th and 21st October.

I agree about the boards scraping the paint of your miniatures. we will see what we can do to prevent this. We may have some new boards.

I understand what your saying about the changes and the exact format is not decided as of yet. However, the multiple games of deathbowl is currently the leading choice. The idea came out of a discussion of the rules of the actual deathbowl game. There was a strong feeling that the way overtime worked was not ideal and could take an inordinately long time to complete. Indeed the deathbowl game was very slow during regular time as well. So we decided we definitely needed a time limit for the turns in the deathbowl game. Once we had the time limit idea out there we realised we had an idea of how long a deathbowl game should take. 4 players x 16 turns each x 3.5 minutes a turn = about 4 hours for a game.
This doesn't really leave a lot of time for overtime if the last game is played on the sunday afternoon, so we wondered how we could get rid of overtime. Then we realised that if there was no overtime we could play quite a few 4 hour games over the weekend so why not make deathbowl a true test of your ability to succeed in deathbowl?

However for this to work we need to balance the way tournament points are awarded for deathbowl games. The system we have been working on alters the alliance part of the game a great deal.
Firstly, you are in direct competition with the player opposite you on the deathbowl board for tournament points. So if they score 2 TDs and you only get 1 you've lost, even if no one else scored!
This is a big change and now defence and attack need to be finely balanced, and no one will allow a "free TD" to their opponents under this system.

I will post the projected scoring system in minute.

This is the current format plan:

Saturday

DB game 1
Lunch
DB game 2
Dinner
DB game 3

Sunday

DB game 4
lunch
prizes
everyone gets home early

DBV tournament points

edited 21/09/2007

Result vs your direct opponent

Win = 3
Tie = 1
Loss = 0

Bonus points

Win the table = 2

Cause the most CAS on table = 1

I've finished up my Ogre-sized pitch with 40mm squares and matching pass templates. You may want a few more of these on hand if anyone's making new boards.

Cheers,
Maureen

Looks good to me Joe. Always hate the fact that casualties are equal to td's in bonuses, but thats just me. Anyways, can't wait to play. Should be interesting to see the chaos involved in four teams beating each other senseless.

I knew you'd mention the CAS vs TD thing.

I think the main role of the CAS thing is to give you something to play for if your getting spanked score wise. I don't expect many people who win big on their table, TD wise to get the most CAS bonus as well. I think the other players might want to take them down a bit personally.....

OMG, you wanna play 3 DB games in the first day? Are we skipping the drinking in the evening and going straight to bed afterwards? Or maybe 2 x 6 turn halfs instead?

Perhaps 1 round of DeathCup with 7's rosters and 6 turn halfs? I have done up smaller 7's sized pitch for my Ogres too with 40mm squares:

Cheers,
Maureen

No 7's, pleeeaaase. Smile

For the first day, what about doing one game of DB, followed by one normal game, then another DB? Just a thought.

We are thinking of having a strict timer system on for the games. So at the set time the game just ends. Much more strictly enforced than at the CCKO this January Smile
There is also going to be a turn timer for everyone as well = 3.5 minute turns.
this is how I see the turns working.

Saturday

8:00 am Registration
9:00 am DB game 1
1:00 pm Lunch
2:00 pm DB game 2
6:00 pm Dinner
7:00 pm DB game 3
11:00 pm Drinking

Sunday

10:00 am DB game 4 (nice late start incase people want to drink)
2:00 pm lunch
3:00 pm prizes
3:30 pm everyone gets home early

I'm afraid there will be no more 7s due to popular demand.

I kinda like it myself, but I see what people have a problem with.

How is the play testing with the timer going? A 3.5 minute timer may be daunting for somebody who has never played DeathBowl and has to figure-out what the heck is going on while this timer is ticking. But I guess that's probably fine, as there will be 4 DB games, so lots of practice time Smile.

Ah, no love for the 7's Crying or Very sad

Two years ago, the record setting 2-2-2-2 tie went into overtime. Using the 2 minute timer in OT rule that was in effect then, the OT round was a blast! Everyone was moving fast and furious, no one ran out of time on their clock. Sometimes resetting the clocks was just eating up extra time! Frequently, players that were away from the action were forgotten and not moved before a turnover, it was all part of the excitement. A 3.5 minute timer would be luxurious, and everyone will adopt real quick.

Cheers,
Mo
