The tournament was a blast. Everyone had a great time. It's late here now. Tomorrow I'll get up a quick report about who all the winners were. For now I'll just say that Steve Lalancette (AKA the one and only Zombie)is the 2003 Death Bowl Champion.
God help us

It was a PHENOMENAL time! Special thanks to Brian for putting together such a great tourney and Andy for coming over to join us! Couldn't have asked for a better bunch of coaches as evidenced by the sportsmanship points.
It was great meeting everyone, and I'm looking forward to the next one!! Now if you'll excuse me I have to go make a Death Bowl pitch... |

Whew, what a crazy four days.
Andy got on the plane last night after a day long walking tour of Montreal. I was so tired when I got home I just passed out. Back at work today so I should have more time to post the results of the tournament. Now I just have to get the spreadshhet back from Rene (the coach who I borrowed the computer from)

I wanna take a moment to point out what a Faaaaantastic job Brian (and his assistants, Rene and Brian) did! Deathbowl 2003 was without doubt the most fun I've ever had at a tournament! It was great meeting Andy Hall, Old Man Monkey, and Melifaxis, not to mention all the Montreal Blood Bowlers, there were more prizes than you can shake a squig at, and let me tell you, those new figs that Andy brought were Sweeeet!
John, I'm going to go and pre-reg for Underworld now - you've got your work cut out for you, living up to what the old CyberHare accomplished!!
See y'all in Michigan! |

There were so many prizes because I expected a much larger turnout than I got. At least everyone who was there got a prize out of it so I guess that's pretty cool all the same.

I'd hate to see tournament organizing become a competition. Those who know me well will tell you that I never do anything half way. I either go completely overboard or I don't bother doing it at all I have experience in event organizing as I was a wedding coordinator for a short while. I even took a course on event organizing. It's just something I like to do. That's why I don't play at half the tournament I go to, I just go to help out.
At the end of the day what makes an event great is the people who attend it and their willingness to have a good time. Like the saying goes,"it only takes one bad apple to ruin the whole batch". That aplies to event organizing as well. Be it drunk Uncle Bob at a wedding or a grumpy coach at a tournament, either one will bring the whole party down. There were just no bad apples at the Death Bowl (maybe a few sour grapes though )so really I should be thanking all of you for making everything run so well.

Don't worry too much about the size, it will grow. The first year is always the hardest, but after that the word of mouth brings them!! |

I got to meet Brian (and the other Montreal chaps) at GenCon. He played the good soldier and offered up his Amazons for "odd man out" games. I'm not surprised that he put together a first-rate event!
Kudos.

Why not...
Montreal, 22:00 or thereabouts on Sunday. A dimly lit portion of one of the city's main streets. Rob is walking along looking for someplace to grab a bite to eat before his bus leaves. Suddenly, two guys in long coats with winter hats hop the wall to the side and step in his path. Out of the corner of his eye Rob notices a few more slide into place behind him.
Goon #1: Cooooke, cooooke?
Rob: Je ne parle français. parlez-vous anglais? (I didn't say it this well, but he understood me well enough. That's about all I know in French besides how to ask for the time)
Goon#2: Cocaine!
Goon#1: Do you want to buy some cocaine?
Rob: No thanks.
Goon#2 (looking angry): Heroine? What about heroine?
Goon#1 (places hand in pocket)
Rob: Uh, no thanks.
Goon #2: Marijuana? What about marijuana?
Rob (finally gets his wits about him): Sorry guys, I don't have enough money today. Maybe tomorrow.
Goon #2: Ah, ok.
They begin to head back towards their alley hiding place.
Of course, once I got past the initial surprise all I could really think was....
Whatever you do Rob DO NOT make THE gesture and say "Deathsticks...I don't need any deathsticks. You should go home and rethink your life."
I guess that's what I get for wandering around alone looking like a tourist. No blood, no foul though |

Oh my god. You went walking around the east end alone at 11pm. That's it young man next time you get a chaperon . When you said you were going to the bus station I though you meant you were going to wait at the bus station. Sigh, at least you're ok. Next year you come to dinner with us and then I take you there myself! Oh my god!
