I have a question that I hope someone on here will be able to answer. In the 2003 Rules Review they made changes to Hypnotic Gaze. It states that an Hypnotic Gaze can be used in place of a Block. My question is: Can a player with Hypnotic Gaze move and then use this trait instead of a Blitz? Let me know what you guys think about this. Thanks.

Absolutely. Same as a poisoned dagger attack.

If that is true then do you need to roll a 4, 5, or 6 when doing a Blitz with the new Wild Animal negative trait?

Wow! Now I am confused. These 2 rules are contraditory. The Hypnotic Gaze states that it can be used in place of a block, but it can also be used in place of a blitz also. Now with the wild animal if you do any other action other than block you must roll a 4, 5, or 6. Now why does the player have to roll to do a blitz when a blitz is nothing more than moving before a block which is how the hypnotic gaze is played. Can someone please clarify this?

well WA is a trait so that rule is there to show how a player can become uncontrollable and is only reliable if his opponent is right in his face.

and HG is a type of attack which can only be done when you could throw a block. yes a blitz is a block with a move before it, but WA's trait prevents it from being as easy to stay mobile.

its not really contradictory just shows how some rules effect other rules.

HG refers to a block - not the Block action, but just a block. WA specifically refers to the Block action. It's quite a deliberate distinction.

The Non-Blitzing interpretation of WA makes the Biggies that have it even less useful than they were under the last version. Given the "fluff" reasoning, is a Wild Animal "really" going to lay on the ground 50% of the time when he could be goring his opponent? If this WA version stands there needs to be serious recosting of the Minotaur (his Horns are nearly useless if he can't Blitz half the time) as well as the Rat Ogre (130K for a 50% useable big guy? I'm not buying the reasoning of him paying for AG 3 when dodging to Blitz is a 50% waste) Just my 2 bits but I'm at a loss for the reasoning behind this interpretation. Confused

It's not an "interpretation". It's the way the rules have been written. It's plain to see for everyone. Besides, Chet is one of the guys who write the rules, so trust him on this. So take it for what it is, the official rule, not a mere "interpretation".

I think he means "the interpretation of Wild Animal to mean 50% to perform any non-Block," not "interpretation" in the sense of "this is how I understand the rule."

Maybe I'm wrong. Anyway, yes, the WA rule applies specifically to Block actions. I agree that this causes serious problems for those who use Rat Ogres and Minotaurs. If you're looking for an alternative for your league, you could try this:

"When taking a Block or Blitz action, the Wild Animal has to roll a 2 or more on D6 to take the action. On a roll of 1, he isn't listening to the coach and refuses to move. When taking any other action, the Wild Animal has to roll a 4 or more on D6 to take the action."

This gives back the Blitz, although it makes the Block action a Bonehead-level risk.

i think i like this rule a little better. i thought that the 2003 RR version basically turned the mino and RO into "special" players who sit down on the field and play with their poo.

We play the WA in this way:
At the Start of your Turn role on d6 for your WA.
1: WA has to block or blitz at once, even if down.
2: has to block at once, if in contact. If not WA has to be activated at once.
3: has to block at once, if in contact . If not WA has to be activated at once.
4,5,6: Treat him for this turn as a normal Player.

WA becomes Wild and still is playable.

The actual Rule is crap.

Greetings

I think that starting next season we'll end up with a house rule like Chet's in our league. Borak, I like yours but it's kinda clunky.

It may not be a house rule for too long. Chet and I are in agreement with that change to WA.

Programming it into the PBeM tool this weekend for use in the MBBL/MBBL2.

Still not that happy with the intereptation of WA, but it's better than the RR version. Couple of points/questions:

1) Is it still going to be a 4+ to Unstun? (If it is I'll still not use a WA [read - refuse to buy the mino fig])
2) How about making it a 2+ for a Fouling action as well?
