We can now have several players with a 6-0 record

I don't think there were any of those last year.

and I hope there are not
but once you get past 64 there is the very real chance of several players with perfect records \
With 82 players there will be 2 players @ 5-0 and there should be between 4-7 players who are 5-0
If I understand the rules correctly the tie breakers would be arbitrary at best

      Quote:
TOP TABLE/TIEBREAKERS
The #1 and #2 ranked coaches after Round 5 will be playing for the title of Chaos Cup Champion and 2nd place. The winner of this Top Table game is the Chaos Cup Champion. In case of a tie score in this Top Table game, the below bullet points will be used to determine the winner.
Pairings will be determined by wins, then tiebreakers based on the following, in this order:
Head to Head record
Strength of Schedule
Tournament Organizer discretion

Head to Head does not apply as they would not have played

Strength of Schedule would take vast amounts of time to figure out unless they had some sort of software to compute all the games of all the players that the undefeated players played against. Does the computing take in effect each coaches NAF ranking with said teams?
Level of Tier play? Just because some one beat a higher or lower level of tier team how did they beat them.
Points and Cas differential based on tournaments means. (for example the mean differential of Elves score v/s Dwarves is 3 with a -2 cas ratio how did that coach fair against the mean) (you would then compare the mean differential for like parings)

exactly how is SoS calculated for this event. What are all the factors that go into judging SoS? Is SoS measured each game?

then it boils do to who Jonny picks basically.

Strength of Schedule is calculated for us automatically in the program, Score. It takes no time on the organizers part.

It's not about NAF records....its about how specific teams are doing at that tournament only.

Example: If there are 3 teams that are 5-0-0 going into Round 6....they will be ranked based on combined total points of their opponents. The 2 teams that played the "best" opponents will be in the final top table.

There is no perfect system. One could argue that you have no control over how well your opponents do in their other games. That's true. Another method is bonus points. I don't like bonus points however because there are certain teams that excel at bonus points. Why is a 1-0 win worth any less than a 5-0 Wood Elf victory? If given the choice on larger tournaments, Opponents strength of schedule is my favorite tie breaker.

After Strength of Schedule I have other tiebreakers setup in the system.

It's not "who I pick" and never has been.

Plus for the record, I'm playing this year so I would bow out of any type of decisions like that anyway. The switchover to Katie will be occurring on Saturday and she will be entering scores. If a decision has to be made for ANY reason, she will do it to remain fair and unbiased.

But again, the tiebreakers will be in the system and they are not secret. We can discuss at the event if you still have questions.

Good response, it does make a good deal of sense but it also shows there could be some "unfairness" felt for a coach that is left out of the finals yet has a 5-0 record. Has a Final Four format been considered, similar to Zlurp?

Hey Bryan!

Possibly. I've left my format during my tenure as Chaos Cup organizer the same for uniformity over the last 4 years, but if Katie and crew want to alter it for 2015 and beyond, that would be up to them.

Hey it is cool that Score figured out how to calculate SoS and wrote it in

We here tried to figure out how SoS is calculated and what factors should quantify

ps
not that I would ever be 5-0 (let alone 6-0) at an event, it was brought up locally about how to solve the dilemma.

Thanks to all the people involved for another fantastic Chaos Cup.

Here are some images. Get them while they are still hot.
