We are happy to let prospective players know that there will be a Rogue Trader Blood Bowl Tournament on May 15, 2004 in Charlotte, NC.

While not NAF sanctioned Crying or Very sad , it looks to be a day of fun for everyone.

It's hoped that the Enslaved Dwarves Twisted Evil will be more on the ball next time and have the thing toghter in time to get the next Tourney Sanctioned.

It will start at 10 am, is a 1 day event, and is limited to the first 16 teams to sign up.

As far as is known at this time, the Gen Con rules set will be used.

That is to say, the latest Living Rule Book, and the official teams as of the 2003 Rules review.
No Freebooters, but you may include a Star Player in your Roster as a "Ringer". Thrud is 100 K, and Might Zug is 160 K.

Full rules will be available soon at the Underground Games Web site:

www.undergroundgamesofcharlotte.com

Hope to see you there.

Sounds fun! FYI, I think GenCon is allowing Vamps and Ogres this year...

Looks like the rules never quite made it to the web site. With no further ado:

INTRODUCTION
Underground Games is pleased to host its first-ever Blood Bowl Rogue Trader tournament on May 15, 2004.

Underground Games is located at 8316 Pineville-Matthews Rd. in Charlotte, North Carolina. You can reach us with questions at either (704) 543-0054 or 1-888-543-8805 or undergroundgames@bellsouth.net; our web site is www.undergroundgamesofcharlotte.com. We are located in the Pineville area of south Charlotte, just off Highway 51 and not far from I-485.

The tournament will start promptly at 10 AM. Late entries will not be allowed! Rounds will be based on a four minute time limit for each player???s turn and thus should not last far beyond two hours and fifteen minutes.

We will have a 30 minute lunch break from roughly 12:15 PM until 12:45 PM, followed by the second and third rounds. There are several restaurants within easy walking distance of the shop, including Subway and Dairy Queen. In addition, we sell snacks and drinks. Please note: No outside food and drink is allowed in the shop! No exceptions!

Due to limited playing space and tournament judges, the first 16 teams to sign up and pay will be allowed in. If you pre-register but do not make it to the tournament site in time, your spot will be given to someone else and you will not be allowed to play.

TOURNAMENT BASICS
You will participate in a series of three matches. After each game you will play against a different opponent. In the first round, players will be matched randomly against an opponent. After that, in each round the two players in 1st and 2nd place (based on their points for coaching) will play each other, the players in 3rd and 4th place will play each other, the players in 5th and 6th place will play each other, and so on. The only exception is that you can never play the same opponent twice; should this happen, a referee will step in and sort things out so that the players face fresh opponents of a suitable caliber.

If time permits, the top two finishers will square off in a final match for the championship. Otherwise, the winner will be decided on a strict points scale.

Once your opponent has been determined, you will be assigned a table. The event organizers will provide no games equipment and the players must provide all other materials (including board, dice, templates, ruler, etc.). You must bring along a copy of the Blood Bowl rules, as well as copies of any material you will be using so that your opponent can check any special rules and characteristics that apply to your team. In addition, if you would like to be certain you have a stool to sit on, please bring one.

To keep on schedule, we would appreciate it if you could play at quite a brisk pace with no time wasting please! Judges will time games that appear in trouble of finishing on time. If you are timed and do not finish within the four minute limit, your turn will be ended after exactly four minutes. Extensions may be given to matches exceeding the time limit due to consultation with a judge.

Each player will be given a results card before each match. Once you've finished your game, you must fill in the card, have your opponent verify and sign it, and then hand it in at the information desk. It is important you accurately fill in all the information, as this will decide your ranking. Your results will then be entered into the tournament database.

THE AWARDS
We will award the following prizes:

??? First Place ??? Top team in points
??? Second Place ??? Second team in points
??? Best Sportsman ??? Coach awarded the most sportsman points by his opponents
??? Best Painted Team ??? Team voted the best-looking by players and judges

THE TOURNAMENT RULES
The rules from the latest edition of the Living Rulebook (available free from www.bloodbowl.com) are to be used unless specifically stated below. All Teams must be rookie teams with a starting value of 1,000,000 gold pieces. All models in your team must be appropriate or converted Citadel miniatures. All models must be painted ??? this means more than an undercoat! Models must have a minimum of 2 different colors and bases must be at a minimum painted or you will not be allowed to enter the tournament (NO EXCEPTIONS!!!).

Only the official teams as of the 2003 rules review maybe entered. To clarify, these are: Human, Orc, Dwarf, High Elf, Skaven, Dark Elf, Chaos, Undead, Chaos Dwarf, Goblin, Halfling, Wood Elf, Norse, Lizardman, Khemri, Elf, Necromatic, Nurgle???s Rotters, and Amazon.

No other teams are allowed. Teams must be written out on the official Blood Bowl team roster pad or the excel team roster available from the resources section of www.bloodbowl.com

No freebooting will be allowed during the tournament. The number of players you start with is the number of players you will end with.

You must bring three copies of your team roster: one to give the officials at registration, one to show your opponent during a match, and the third for your own reference.

Make sure your team is correct as team rosters will be checked and any mistakes (even if not deliberate) will result in that player receiving a warning. Repeated violation will lead to ejection.

DICE
Players must provide their own dice. If either player wishes to use the same set of dice, at the beginning of each game you will roll dice to see which coach???s dice both players will use during the game. If both players are fine with using separate dice, that will be allowed as well.

Please ROLL the dice. Simply dropping dice is not sufficient for randomizing the result. Violation of this rule will result in a warning; repeated violation will result in ejection.

TEAM BUILDING
After each game, you may pick one of three options for skills:

??? Give 2 different non-Big Guy members of your team a normal skill.
??? Give one Big Guy on your team a normal skill.
??? Give one non-Big Guy member of your team a double roll skill/trait.

You may not stack additional skills on players so only one new skill per player. Players will take skills from categories as normal. Star Players on your team can never be given additional skills or traits.

This system replaces the League and Star Player Points system in the Blood Bowl handbook.

CASUALTIES
All casualties that have been inflicted on your team, including death, are wiped away at the end of the game. In other words, the team resets after every game. Skills accrued through the tournament will not be lost, even if the player dies. Note: Apothecaries are still useful for bringing back injured players during the game.

WIZARDS
You may purchase a wizard for your team for this tournament. Wizards cost 150k (including the Dwarf Runesmith) to have on your team. The Halfling team may purchase additional Chef rolls (instead of a wizard) for 60k each. Because of the nature of the tournament and the LRB rules, Undead, Khemri, and Necro teams may not purchase a wizard for their team (the Necromancer is already part of the team as the head coach).

STAR PLAYERS
You may buy Star Players if you wish for your team. Star players cost their full price in the Handbook or Living Rule Book plus an additional amount equal to their cost over 100k. Star players are considered ringers brought in just for the tournament. As a result they are not allowed to use team or Leader re-rolls. Star players are not freebooted as this is not a league. They may not be given any extra skills in the Tournament. You may only use the official Star Players from the Living Rulebook 3.0 available at the Resource section of http://www.bloodbowl.com.

If both teams have purchased the same star player, neither team can use that star player for that game.

There are two additional changes to Star Players in the LRB:
??? You may hire Thrud the Barbarian for your team for 100k.
??? Mighty Zug costs 160k (not 140k) for this tournament.

Example: A Human team wants to hire Griff Oberwald for the tournament. Griff will cost 260k. (180 + (180-100) ). In addition, Griff will not be able to use team rerolls. If this Human team plays another Human team with Griff, then both Griffs will sit out that game.

One last note on stars: Stars in the current rules no longer have positions. So a team can have 4 Human Blitzers and Griff Oberwald, if they desired. Also Stars are NOT considered Big Guys for purposes of Big Guy limits on teams, so for example a Halfling roster could be 9 Halflings, 2 Treemen, 1 Deeproot Strongbranch, 1 re-roll, a Halfling Master Chef with 2 extra rolls, and 5 Fan Factor and be very legal for this tournament.

TOURNAMENT POINTS

Game Points
This is how teams will be ranked throughout the tournament and will be the largest deciding factor of who will be the overall champion. Teams will be ranked after each game using the following criteria in the order given: Tournament points, touchdowns scored, and casualties caused. A Casualty is counted only if caused by a block, foul, or secret weapon use ??? NOT for failed dodges, failed Go For It???s, or pushes into the crowd. Scores are recorded after each game on the provided results card using the list below.

Win = 50 points
Blow out bonus (won by 2+ points) = +10
Smackdown bonus (won, and caused more casualties) = +10
Beat 'em up good (won, and tied for casualties) = +5

Loss = 10 points
Keeping it close bonus (lost by 1 point) = +10
"You should see the other guy" bonus (lost, but caused more casualties) = +10
Put up the good fight (lost, but tied for casualties) = +5

Tie = 30 points
Yeah, but we hurt 'em bonus (tied, but caused more casualties) = +10
A tight game start to finish (tied for score and casualties) = +5

Painting
All models in your team must be appropriate or converted miniatures reasonably representative of your team. All models must be painted ??? this means more than an undercoat! In fact the models must have a minimum of 2 different colors and the bases must be flocked/decorated or at a minimum painted or you will not be allowed to enter the tournament (NO EXCEPTIONS!!!)

Up to twenty extra Tournament Points are awarded for team painting. The judges will award five points for each of the below criteria achieved: not on aesthetics, but on the strict guidelines given below. This means any painter of any standard can gain fifteen points if he puts the effort in and follows the guidelines. The judges??? decision is final.

Based (+5) ??? All the bases in the team (including coaching staff) are painted and textured in some manner. The baseline for texture is flock as a minimum. Just being painted green is not enough!

Painted (+5) ??? The team is painted, all models have at least 2 colors on them. Different colors should be used for different areas. Undercoats must not be visible.

Detailed (+5) ??? All models have had the details of the model painted in a variety of colors or with noticeable effects. This can be shading or highlighting, or 'black-lining' etc. This discriminates between the merely painted team and the team that has had attention paid to it. Important: In order to get the point all the models in the team must fulfill the criteria. If even one fails, the points can't be scored.

During registration, painting points will be assigned. Each judge will pick three teams for
the Best Team vote. These teams are chosen for purely aesthetic and subjective reasons but will have received a minimum of 15 painting points to be considered.

All players in the tournament will be invited to vote for the Best Team during lunch. The most votes will win the player the award for Best Painted and 5 additional tournament points (ties will be broken by judges decision).

Sportsmanship
Tournament Points are awarded for Sportsmanship as well. We do this because our hobby is not just about playing games, but also about being a good sport and an enjoyable opponent.

At the end of the tournament, all players will rank their opponents in order from most sporting to least sporting. These rankings will be used to add points to the final score and these final scores will be added to your tournament points from your games to determine the winners of the Blood Bowl tournament. In addition, these points will be totaled to determine the winners of the Best Sportsmanship. Ties, if they occur, for this award will be broken by tournament officials.

Tournament points for sportsmanship will be awarded as follows for each opponent that listed you in that place:

1st 10 points
2nd 5 points
3rd 0 points

If you have an opponent who drops out without voting, you will receive 5 points from that coach.

JUDGING
In all matters, the tournament judges have the final say. However, if you believe the judge has made a mistake, feel free to point out relevant passages from the LRB or official FAQs.

If you notice a mistake was made (too many dice rolled, a player should have had to dodge, etc.) before another player piece has been moved, please fix the result, rerolling all dice. If another player piece has been moved, it is too late to change the result. If you feel your opponent willfully misrepresented something resulting in the mistake, please call a judge.

The ???chess rule??? for moving pieces applies: once you have removed your hand from a player piece, that move becomes official. Until that time, you may ???take back??? any move made with that piece. If you are ???test-moving??? a piece to determine where it can go, please place a finger on his starting square. Please note that this rule applies to the path taken as well; if you take your hand off a player after moving him on a path that requires a dodge roll, you MUST make that roll.

A ???yellow card??? is considered a warning. A second such offense will result in ejection from the tournament. Offenses resulting in a warning include (but are not limited to):

??? Becoming combative with a judge or another player. If you have any rules questions, please call a judge to settle them.
??? Mistakes in recording match results, skills acquired, etc.
??? Repeated misrepresentation in the presence of a judge. While we recognize that everyone makes mistakes, a pattern of mistakes indicates sloppy play and/or cheating. Please make every effort to play according to the rules.
??? Dropping, rather than rolling, the dice.

A ???red card??? is immediate ejection from the tournament. These penalties are reserved for cheating, blatant disregard for rules, and/or abusive behavior.

(Thanks to the GenCon Blood Bowl organizers for the document that formed the basis of these rules.)
