Hey folks,

More questions regarding my cheatin' Hobgoblins. Smile

1. Can Pass Block be utilized against someone throwing a Bomb?

2. Can Pass Block or Interceptions be used against someone with a Blunderbuss?

Thanks!

1. Yes.
2. No. Can't be used against hail mary and this is treated like a hail mary.

1) Are you sure of that Zombie? I thought Pass Block was only used on passing the ball?

Well, bombs CAN be intercepted, that's for sure. So i don't see why you couldn't use pass block.

lrb pp36 "A player with this skill is allowed to move three squares when the opposing coach announces that one of his players is going to pass the ball."

So you can't as a bomb isn't the ball. Its the same rule that stops PB working against TTM.

Are you sure you can't use PB on the Blunderbuss? I know you can't intercept the ball (as it's a Hail Mary pass) and that the tackle zone will not affect the pass roll but does that matter? You can still meet the conditions of using the skill, by putting a tackle zone on a player passing the ball. Neither skill states that you can't use PB on a HM.

I'd agree with Zombie on the Blunderbuss - "The normal rules for passing the ball are not used when it is fired from a blunderbuss." - but I think its more in the spirit of the blunderbuss that you can use it.

The spirit of the pass block skill is that you can only use it if it can make the throw harder (by applying a tackle zone or threatening an interception). If you can't make the throw harder, then you can't use the skill.

As for bombs, i believe it says to treat it like a normal pass. You can use pass block there.

With throw team mate, it says in the skill description itself that it can't be intercepted, while it says the exact opposite in the bit about bombs.

I'm not sold on the spirit argument there. If you follow it through to its logical extreme then if the thrower already requires a 6 you could argue you then couldn't use pass block. I think the spirit of the rule is as much about the pass blocker using his quick reflexes to dive in the way as reducing the actual chances of a successful pass. And what about putting a tackle zone on the intended catcher?

I'm also not really convinced that the "does not use the normal passing rules" line excludes the use of PB. I read it more as a preamble to the explanation of how special (i.e. not normal) passing rules for the blunderbuss work.
