Hi,
Im putting together a couple teams out of minis laying around, and some ocassional purchases. Im strapped so most of the miniatures Ill be buying are from Reaper, not GW... Anyway, Im a little puzzled to what a Wight is. In Tolkien's novels, they are a bit ghostly/spirit/ethereal like, but some things I've seen they are more like a zombie, and the GW minis look like skeletons. Does anyone have any info on what a fantasy wight really is?

Perhaps this will help, particularly the Tolkien reference

Well in the old world wights and skeletons are pretty much very similar. What sets the wights apart is that they were true heroes/kings etc. in life and so in death won't relinquish their souls. They pretty much wander around trying to fend of ppl who are robbing them off their gold/jewels. Essentially wights are ghosts in skeleton bodies and skeletons are just animated bones Confused Hope that helped Very Happy

Yeah, that's a good explaination of what they are - I tend to think of them as more powerful and intelligent versions of animated skeletons.

D&D describes them as "A wight???s appearance is a weird and twisted reflection of the form it had in life. A wight is about the height and weight of a human."

Male wights are also capable of emulating the sounds of a full soul-jazz ensemble with a slap bass and eight-man horn section. Undead and Necromantic coaches can often be heard shouting "play that funky music, wight boy."
