piling on can only be used vs prone players, if you fail the first stab roll the target will still be standing
by that logic, no you can't combine piling on and stab to reroll a failed stab roll |

But if you knocked him down you could use piling on to reroll the injury roll, no? |

Piling on clearly says it cannot be used with stab
