A question came up last night in one of our games -
If the kicking team rolls Perfect Defence on the Kickoff table - they are allowed to re-setup the team in a legal layout. Does that include swapping out players with those in reserves? |

"The kicking team's coach may reorganize his players - in other words he can set them up again into another legal defense."
Judging by the wording, I would say no you can't substitute reserves onto the field. It says you can "set them up again", I read that as meaning the players that were already setup on the field.
Of course, open to discussion and interpretation. I would say no, but if both coaches agree... |

I agree with that - and just to make sure, we have added the following wording in our rules section:
When rolling the perfect defence result on the kick-off table, you reorganize the players on the field - it is not a completely new set-up where you can exchange the players on the field with players in the dug-out.
At least now there is no question about how we interpret perfect defence in our league. I'm open to hearing other people's views... |
