Hello America! Very Happy

When I first started hammering on about a little idea of mine which ended up being the illustrious Coach Locator (on the links page to the left of the screen just under the Tell A Friend link) I honestly didn't know if it was going to take on or if it was going to be of any use to people.

I think it looks pretty good but for the US especially I was thinking of something to help judge how far away your nearest local Blood Bowlers were. I'm not sure if it does that as unless you have an encyclopaedic geographical knowledge of each state then it's not immediately clear.

Ideally a map would be most useful I suppose but that's not very likely.

I was thinking that it would be great to be able to click a button and download the coach locator details to a spreadsheet. You could then mess with the details as much as you want!

Well, I mean like the list below:

7 States with 1 NAF member, 7 states with 2 NAF members and 1 State with 7 NAF members! (Sorry, getting a little bit Stat-happy there Embarassed)

I know this is subjective but I still find it pretty interesting.
What do you reckon?

Boring? Worthwhile? Pointless? Useful?

Any comments from the US?

Far from complete, I wish more people were using it. I think the Indiana Illinois Michigan Wisconsin and Ohio numbers would be twice what is listed if everyone was included. There are a lot of members that never add a location to there user profile. It is pretty interesting though, I had no idea there were that many in CA. A map feature would be pretty cool.

Yeah, that would be amazing to be honest. You can click right through to get a little blurb from the person saying stuff about themselves.

Would be too kool for skool, not too sure how viable it would be.

Good find though mate! Cool

Yep, loads of things I'm curious about to be honest. I understand the areas where there are two sign-ups; two mates who pay both want sweet dice - pretty straight forward really. Smile

The ones where there are only one sign-up are a bit more strange; surely it does not mean only one player? Maybe the single sign-ups gave their mates a look at the site and they didn't fancy it? Dunno.

The ones that were of particular interest were the ones with 5 or more at. These States have clearly enough players for leagues (well I assume so, again my limited knowledge of the geography letting me down as these places could be hundreds of miles apart I suppose Confused ).

Wouldn't it be great for the coach locator to be able to link to a league or at least a main BB contact for the area (in the way Duke Jans link works)? Surely this would be of help to both newbies trying to meet others and for leagues trying to attract new blood?

I got to thinking about this after a thread that was running on my home leagues chatroom; the ECBBL. Since the year 2000 we've had over 50 players pass through and game with us and our main Premiership season (a spring and winter set of 10-12 games then semi's, quarter-finals and finals ) regularly having 18+ players.

Obviously the transitory nature of a busy capital city has meant at least 6 players leaving to move to different countries but it has almost always been our website that got us new players.

Just random musings, probably need a little more planning...

Lets make it perfect

Go back in (or for new players)
You got:
Your Name
ID
Password (hidden)
Address (mostly Hidden so you can get your stuff) City, State, (Zip) visible
Phone Number (hidden)
Email (optional visibility)
League
Country, gets a little Flag on your Avatar-ish area when you post

The Locator and League tracker are automatically populated based on your answers

The computer records your membership date
reminders for renewal are send out about a month before the date (with directions on how to pay)

The computer reminds you of NAF events in your area with a monthly newsletter (that piece changes for everyone based on location) With the 4 Majors reminded about 3 months in advance

Didn't someone already do something like that? I know there was one running on the old SG forum, but I'm sure I remember a BB-specific one running around.
