Yesterday during a match, there was a little bit of an argument.

I was acting as ref for two different matches, and suddenly hell was loss on one of the tables. Smile

They were in not sure on how the injury procedure is.
And I was suddely in doubt myself.

If an serious injury is made, roll for the type AFTER the match, or DURING the match?

I sad after the match, then the players have to make a quick move, use the Apo. or not.

Was I wrong?

Roll immediately - you do get to find out before deciding whether to use the apoth or not.

No where in the serious injury section does it say to wait. As it doesn't you do it immediately the injury is suffered.

Roll straight away.

Imcompetant as they are, even BB apothecaries know the difference between a dead play and a BH one Wink Smile

It is a roll made straight away, although I have played it the other way around. Actually, I liked it that way a bit better, as it encoraged player turnover a bit more, and caused more niggles/gimps.

Embarassed D'oh. Sorry, that was me talking. I was logged in as my roommate, Aristodeimos.

I don't know why everyone is obsessed with player turn over - we get enough as it is!

Anyway - I have allowed people to reserve their apothecary until the end in the case of serious injuries (but not for deaths)... Mainly because at the moment probability steadfastly refuses to work and there have been more deaths than badly hurts in th league so far!

Give it time, and that will even out.

A lot of the older players like turnover because it keeps teams from getting above the 250 range. BB is really most enjoyable in the 150 - 200 team rated range, and high turnover can help keep teams there for long term gaming.

I appreciate that - but let me say I've probably played more Blood Bowl than most people in the NAF. And if I haven't, then you lot need shooting Very Happy

Personally I don't like Blood Bowl in the 150-200 range. Well thats a lie but its not my preference

I like starting teams (Its a daft half hour) and teams when they get to 200 - 250...

Once a team gets to 300 I consider it finished. I don't want to see teams permanently stuck at 250. I think they should plateau, but not untl 300 or so.

Actually I enjoy BB at all levels..

400+ teams ARE monstrous though, but acceptable on occasions (the Man Utds of this world!)

In autumn 97 we started a league. Teams then continued into the superleague and as commissioner I allowed people to keep one team in the superleague each season. I retired my Warlords in 2000 - 6 seasons later and some 80+ games....

Needless to say the superleague ratings varied from 300 - 700 team rating and things got very tense and competetive, and SLOW!

So while I agree team turnover is a good thing (from experience) I think limiting it to 250 will make the game rather boring for us veterans who have SEEN what can be done...It has good and bad points... Although I know I'll never coach a team that was THAT good ever again Crying or Very sad

But I digress... Very Happy

This season's injuries have just been diabolical, for about the last 6 months. I've not seen anything like it in my 8 years as commissioner....

(goes off to get zimmer frame and to spout about "in my day.....")

lol that is bound to get some replies...

I like tournies because they put everyone on an even level with the same TR. I don't like unbalanced matches as it tends to be the teams that win games rather than the coaches, so as long as it is TR250 vs TR250 that's good, but TR180 vs TR110 sucks (for example)

Hmm. Warlords. League commissioner. Superleague.

Rings a bell.

Idea

Is this perhaps the coach of the human team that repeatedly thwarted my Apocalypse in Sheffield? If so, I recall the competitive, but not the slow. I also recall the difference in the coaches being more significant than the difference in TR on many occasions. Overall I think I broadly support what you said about capping TR.

Still, regarding casualties, it's nice to know the league didn't go soft after I left. Twisted Evil

Indigo> TR 110 vs 180 is bad, and dull, but 180 vs. 250 can be fascinating... However I think the "better team" ought to be able to win more often than not....

Walkovers are only sometimes fun...

Mordredd> Eek! Its Mildred's Apocalypse Very Happy

No the league didn't go soft - it continues... as do the Warlords Sad Although all new Norse Warlords are poo...

Sheffield has also won the Student Nationals BB comp 2 years running Smile and next year we're hosting it....

See: http://usit.shef.ac.uk/~wargamessoc

And you are right - the difference in coaching makes all the difference (we remember Joe and Mark - and now John, bizarrely...)

Green Bay Picklers win cup Shocked that's just wrong. I thought you said the league hadn't gone soft!

I'm studying at Birmingham now, so maybe I could be their only BB player for next years nationals. Very Happy You will have to post details nearer to the time.

Green Bay Picklers THIRD ELEVEN - chaos Very Happy
They are both the "hardest" and "most violent"

GBP3X! - CF/game = 3.5 average, against 0.89

However in the OLD days - when 12 was dead regardless and you rarely got sent off for fouling....3rd ed...

Legion Of Death (Undead) CF/game = 7.00 average
Mordredds Apocalypse (Undead) CF/game =6.59 average

(cough!)

Anyway - RE: Nationals..

Yep - see your Uni wargames rep (if you have one Surprised) in Sept/Oct as we will be sending out stuff.....

And I am the current champion - with my Elves (looks smug) though I'm not defending this year...
