Tournament Rules:
All games of the Royal Open will be played using the rules from the Blood Bowl 2020 Rulebook and available teams include those in the 2020 Rulebook and NAF additional tournament teams (Slann, Khorne).

Resurrection style – all injuries/deaths are healed in between games.

Roster Creation:
You are given 1,100,000 gold pieces to build your team. You may purchase players, rerolls, dedicated fans, coaches, and cheerleaders as normal with this money.

Wizards, Journeymen, Special Play cards, and Mercenaries are NOT allowed

You may purchase any other inducements for your team, including Star Players (see below), as described in the Blood Bowl 2020 rulebook or Deathzone supplement. Any gold pieces left over after roster creation are lost and may not be further spent on skills.

STAR PLAYERS: If you are including a Star Player, you must have 11 players on your team BEFORE hiring them. Furthermore, King BBQ abhors the ‘pretenders’ running around the realm. If both players attempt to field the same Star Player, they are both thrown out of the match as the court wizards attempt to divine the real from the pretender. Also, you cannot use Igors or Apothecaries on Star Players.

**All new star players from the Second Season Edition and subsequent Spike Journals will be allowed. Second Season Edition has given Star Players each their own "Special Rule". If you have a Star Player on your roster, you are expected to explain the "Special Rule" to your opponent.

Skill Selection:
King BBQ has hired the best trainers money can buy to whip the competing teams into shape. Each team may choose one of the packages below to aid them in their quest for glory but King BBQ prefers variety in his mayhem. Every time you add a copy of a skill you have already chosen, you add 5,000 to its cost. For example, taking Block as a primary skill for a Human lineman would cost 20,000. Taking Block on a second member of that team will cost 25,000. Taking it a third time will cost 30,000. And so forth. As a true King of the People, King BBQ would prefer to give all of his subjects a chance to shine and inducing a Star Player in his tournament will reduce your available purse for skill selection by 85,000.

The following rules govern how skills may be distributed. Any unused gold from selecting skills is lost.
1. No player may be given more than two skills.
2. No stat increases may be taken.
3. Star players may not be given any skills or stat increases.
4. Normal skills may be chosen for 20,000 gold coins (plus more for duplicates per above)
5. Secondary skills may be chosen for 40,000 gold coins (plus more for duplicates per above)
6. No Random skills may be chosen.
7. If you chose a Star Player inducement, reduce your available coins for skills by 85,000.

A. The Laissez-Faire Package: 185,000 coins. Spend them as you will.

B. The Meister’s Package: 145,000 coins plus a wandering apothecary (only available to those teams who can normally induce a wandering apothecary)

C. The Peasant’s Package: 205,000 coins. Only primary skills may be taken. May not be taken if you induce a Star Player – they don’t play with peasants!

D. The Knight’s Package: 205,000 coins. Only secondary skills may be taken.

E. The Jester’s Package: 160,000 coins and a roll on the Prayers to Nuffle table each kickoff.

Pairing and Scoring:
Opponents will be selected randomly for Round 1. Rounds 2 and 3 will be selected using Swiss pairing (most points vs. most points, lowest points vs. lowest points, etc.) Coaches are awarded points based on the following:
+25 points for each win
+10 points for each draw
0 points for each loss
+ 1 point per opponent casualty sustained (King BBQ appreciates all manner of viciousness therefore all casualties, regardless of how they are inflicted, count)
+ 2 points for each touchdown scored
+ 2 points for shutting out your opponent (your opponent did not score any touchdowns)

Glittering Prizes:
Awards will be given during the awards ceremony of the Royal Open, specifics TBD based on pre-registered entries, but likely awards below. King BBQ, the very vision of fairness, only allows the award of one glittering prize to any participant. The TO, on behalf of King BBQ, may alter this ruling in extenuating circumstances.

• King/Queen of the Games – A golden crown for the coach with the most points after the final round.
• Prince/Princess of the Games – A silver crown for the coach with the 2nd most points after the final round.
• Duke/Duchess of the Games – A copper crown for the coach with the 3rd most points after the final round
• Master of the Horse – A new mount is granted to the coach with the most acquired touchdowns
• Royal Executioner – A sword granted to the coach with the most casualties caused during the games
• Keeper of the Seal – A shield granted to the coach with fewest touchdowns against during the games
• Junker of the Games – A cardboard crown given to the coach with the fewest points after the final round. You have disappointed King BBQ, but he hopes this token of his gratitude will inspire you to greater feats.

COVID-19:
Participants will be expected to follow guidelines for the local area and/or any restrictions the hosting venue may enforce at the time of the tournament, to include the possibility of mask-wear.
