TEAM CREATION

• Each team has a total of 1,150,000 gps to spend on roster creation and must hire a minimum of 11 players. Any unspent cash at roster creation will be lost and all teams will be considered having the same Current Team Value (CTV) for the purpose of inducements and prayers to Nuffle.

• Cash given is also used to buy re-rolls, assistant coaches, cheerleaders, apothecaries and so on. Please note that as per BB2020 tournament rules, there is no/no free Dedicated Fans.

• The Thrunk Memorial Brick is a resurrection tournament, so no SPPs are gained, and injuries, casualties or deaths do not carry on from one game to other.

• Undead, Necromantic and Nurgle teams are allowed to apply the Masters of Undeath and Plague Ridden special rules. Players added to a team roster through a game as a result of those special rules are removed from the roster at the end of that game.

• Teams will consist of a minimum of 11 players and a maximum of 16 players, including star players.

• Star players can only be induced after 11 regular players have already been rostered.

• Star players can’t be given extra skills from the team’s skill budget.

• If both opposing teams are fielding the same star player in a game, both star players are allowed to play.

TIERS AND SKILL SETS

Teams are separated in five different tiers and offered different skill sets to choose from.

Each team is permitted to stack 2 Primary Skills on a maximum of 1 player at the cost of both 1 Primary Skill and 1 Secondary Skill. If your team and skill set do not allow you to give Secondary Skills to your players, you’re not allowed to stack skills.

Tier 1: Chaos Dwarves, Dark Elves, Dwarves, Humans, Lizardmen, Orcs, Undead, Wood Elves.

Option A. 6 Primary Skills
Option B. 4 Primary Skills + 1 Secondary Skill
Option C. 3 Primary Skills + Access to 1 Star Player

Tier 2: Amazon, Elven Union, High Elves, Necromantic Horror, Norse, Skaven, Slann, Underworld Denizens.

Option A. 7 Primary Skills
Option B. 5 Primary Skills + 1 Secondary Skill
Option C. 4 Primary Skills + Access to 1 Star Player

Tier 3: Black Orcs, Chaos Chosen, Imperial Nobility, Khorne, Nurgle, Tomb Kings.

A. 7 Primary Skills + 1 Secondary Skill
B. 5 Primary Skills + 2 Secondary Skills.
C. 5 Primary Skills + Access to 1 Star Player

Tier 4: Chaos Renegades, Old World Alliance, Vampires.

Option A. 8 Primary Skills + 1 Secondary Skill
Option B. 6 Primary Skills + 2 Secondary Skills
Option C. 6 Primary Skills + Access to 1 Star Player

Tier 5: Halflings, Goblins, Ogres, Snotlings.

Option A. 8 Primary Skills + 2 Secondary Skills
Option B. 6 Primary Skills + 3 Secondary Skills
Option C. 6 Primary Skills + Access to 1 Star Player
Option D. 4 Primary Skills + Access to 2 Star Players

You can buy certain inducements with the cash you get to create your team. Some inducements are restricted to specific teams, as per Blood Bowl rulebook. No Death Zone inducements are allowed,
except star players (more on that below):

ALLOWED INDUCEMENTS
0-01 Halfling Master Chef (300k, 100k for halfling teams)
0-06 Assistant coaches (10k)
0-12 Cheerleaders (10k)
0-02 Bloodweiser Kegs (50k)
0-03 Bribes 100k (Bribery & Corruption teams, 50k) No bribes are allowed if your team has one or more players with the “Sneaky Git” Skill unless your chosen team is Goblins. Please note that this is a key difference from the World Cup 2023 Ruleset in that there is no exception made for Goblins at the World Cup.
0-02 Wandering Apothecaries (100k)
0-01 Morgue Assistant (100k)
0-01 Plague Doctor (100k)
0-01 Riotous Rookies (100k)

Nothing else is allowed, be it a Blood Bowl Rulebook or Death Zone inducement.

STAR PLAYERS

In case you’re considering adding a star player to your team, you will have to follow these rules:

• As stated before, star players can’t be given extra skills from the team’s skill set.

• New star players published in Spike magazines and the 2022 Blood Bowl Almanac are allowed, as using them will assist the NAF in generating data about the stars in question.

EXTRA CHARGE FOR CERTAIN STAR PLAYERS

Certain star players are so famous, glamorous or infamous that their teammates pay all their attention to them, forgetting to train properly and improve their own skills. So, in case you want to hire one of them for your team, you will have to “pay” some of the skills you got on your skillset to make up for this situation.

If you hire one of the following star players, you’ll have to reduce the mentioned skills from your skillsets.

Morn’N’Thorg = 3 Primary Skills
Griff Oberwald = 3 Primary Skills

Cindy Piewhistle = 2 Primary Skills
Deeproot Strongbranch = 2 Primary Skills
Hakflem Skuttlespike = 2 Primary Skills
Kreek Rustgouger = 2 Primary Skills
Bomber Dribblesnot = 2 Primary Skills

Wilhelm Chaney = 1 Primary Skill

Examples:

• A Dwarf coach wants to hire Griff Oberwald. Being Tier 1, he chooses the Option C skill set and reduces 3 skills from it, getting 0 skills for his team (and paying Griff’s fee too: it doesn’t mean he doesn ́t have to pay gp for him)

• A Goblin coach wants to hire Bomber Dribblesnot for his team. He chooses the Option C skill set and reduces 2 skills from it, getting 4 Primary Skills.

• A Halfling coach wants to hire Morg’N’Thorg and Griff Oberwald for his team. He chooses the Option D skill set, that allows him to have 2 star players on the team. But as that skill set just gives him 4 primary skills, and he would have to reduce it by 6, it’s not allowed to hire both of these particular star players.

MATCH-UPS:

The first round of games will be determined by random draw from two pools of coaches, one pool of coaches from the National Capital Region and another pool of coaches from the Montreal region to promote linkages between the respective Blood Bowl communities. Coaches from elsewhere will be invited to indicate their preferred pool in which to be placed. Subsequent rounds will follow the "Swiss" model, with the team with the most points playing the team with the second most points, and so on.

SCORING:

Points will be allocated as follow:
Win = 3 points
Draw = 1 point
Loss = 0 points
Concession = -3 points

In the case of a tie, tie breakers are in the following order:

- Number of Casualties caused against the Ghost of Thrunk
- TD differential (TD scored - TD against)
- CAS difference (Cas inflicted - Cas received)
Head-to-Head record (if applicable)

GHOST OF THRUNK SPECIAL RULES

Yes, Thrunk is dead. However, like many players, being dead doesn’t mean his ghost doesn’t still want to play Blood Bowl! During the tournament that bears his name, he sometimes appears when the fans roar, waking his ghost from his body’s resting place.

Thrunk seeks to recreate the glory of the moment of his death. He is therefore obsessed with the notion of obtaining the ball and scoring a touchdown. Alas, Thrunk’s ghost doesn’t realize it is only an ethereal spirit, unable to grasp the ball. However, this doesn’t prevent him from trying! He will move towards the ball and attempt either to pick it up if it isn’t in anyone’s possession or dislodge it if it is.

When the Cheering Fans kick-off event is rolled, roll to see whether one team or the other gets a Prayer to Nuffle as usual. Thrunk will then manifest himself by appearing on the trap door on the receiving team’s half. If - at the beginning of your turn but before any player actions - you are not/not in possession of the ball, you must activate Thrunk. Roll first to determine whether, like all Ogres, Thrunk goes Bonehead. If he fails the test, he will remain in place and lose his tackle zone like any other Ogre. If he passes the Bonehead test, he may move.

Thrunk's Movement: you must direct Thrunk by moving him as per the Ball and Chain rule. He must be moved the entire extent of his MA score with no “rushing” rolls allowed. Each movement MUST take Thrunk either a row or column of squares closer to the ball. If his movement would bring him into contact with any player, he will throw a block. As per the Ball & Chain rules, Thrunk must follow-up if he pushes back another player. If Thrunk still has movement left, he will continue moving and potentially throwing blocks. If Thrunk is Knocked Down or is Placed Prone, an Injury roll is made against him. The effect of the cheering fans is dispelled and Thrunk is removed from play. If Thrunk moves onto the ball, his No Hands prevents him from picking it up. It will bounce away from him. Failing to pick up the ball will not/not end Thrunk's activation. If he has remaining movement, he will move onto the ball again.

Please note that Thrunk is not immune from opposition players lending assists to a teammate who is blocked by Thrunk. Once his activation is complete, Thrunk comes to a halt and is counted as an opponent in all cases where an agility roll needs to be made, including dodges. He will neither provide an assist to a block nor remove any assists because of his presence.

In all other respects, Thrunk is a normal player. He can be on the receiving end of blocks, be pushed into the crowd, and get injured. Indeed, dishing out a casualty to Thrunk is so crowd-pleasing the tournament uses this statistic as a tie-breaker. If Thrunk is removed from play, he may re-appear for later drives in the game.
