The Long Island Blood Bowl League
Presents
Saturday, April 22, 2022
at
Rip n Ship Gaming
729 Acorn Street Deer Park, NY 11729
Rule Set v1.0

The Empire Cup has gone all Earth Day!!! Come to the longest-running NAF-sponsored tournament in the New York metro area!

As always, it’s a resurrection-style tournament, meaning that any injuries sustained in one game will not carry over to the next. The tournament will be one day and feature three guaranteed games for participating teams.

Empire Cup is also the third tournament of the year in the Big Apple Tournament Series. Participating coaches qualify for BATS points whether they reside in the region or not. Please contact the Empire Cup VI tournament organizer at empirecupbb@gmail.com for more information. Points available for this tournament are listed at the bottom of the document.

• Your Painted Team
• A Blood Bowl Board (custom to standard specs or from the board game itself), dugouts, and templates.
• Three printed copies of your team roster, using the BB Roster, found at https://bbroster.com/.
• Good sportsmanship

Empire Cup utilizes the BB2020 Rule Set released by Games Workshop. These rules are encompassed by the following documents:

• The rules in the BB2020 starter box
• Any supplementary rules published by Games Workshop, such as Spike Journals and Almanacs, in addition to rules accompanying any product release, such as the packets inside Star Player packaging
• The Teams of Legend document, released and hosted by Games Workshop
• The Errata and Designer’s Commentary (known as FAQ) published by Games Workshop.

In addition, the following NAF-sponsored changes will be applied to the rule set:

• Slann are a historical team that does not appear in BB2020. The NAF recommends you include this race at tournaments, but this is not mandatory. The Slann roster is printed in this rule set. In the case of Norse and Amazons, these have been supplanted by new rosters. As these new rosters are now mandatory, the old rosters are considered obsolete and may not be used
• Team creation will follow the Exhibition Play rules in the main Rule Book including:
o The entire team budget must be spent
o Dedicated fans start at 0 before purchasing
o No player advancement will occur in games
o The Exhibition Prayers to Nuffle table will be used (pg 103) (a copy of this will be distributed at the event)

You have 1,200,000 gold crowns to build a team consisting of a minimum of 11 players. You may purchase fan factor, rerolls, assistant coaches, cheerleaders and/or an apothecary (standard rules) per each team’s usual rules. The following inducements may also be purchased at their standard price as permanent part of the team:

• Bloodweiser Kegs
• Wandering Apothecary
• Bribe
• Halfling Master Chef
• Star Players*
• Druid*

Star players may be purchased as a permanent part of the team, however you must already have 11 players on your roster before doing so. If two teams playing each other purchase the same star player, neither will be able to use the star player. In addition, star players will affect the skill packages as detailed below.

Skills are purchased using skill points. The number of skill points available to a team will be based on the tier that they belong to. The tiers being used are in the latest FAQ found here. A maximum of 2 skills may be given to any single player and there is no limit to the number of times a single skill may be chosen. Star players chosen will cost 2 skill points while mega star players will cost 4 skill points. The list of mega star players can also be found in the FAQ here.

Primary Skill (1 Skill Point)
Secondary Skill (2 Skill Points)
Star Player (2 Skill Points)
Mega-Star (replaces Star) (4 Skill Points)

• Tier 1 (6 Skills Points) Maximum 1 Secondary skill, Maximum 1 Star Player including Mega-Star
• Tier 2 (8 Skills Points) Maximum 2 Secondary skills, Maximum 2 Star Players including 1 Mega-Star
• Tier 3 (10 Skills Points) Maximum 3 Secondary skills, Maximum 2 Star Players including 1 Mega-Star

Megastars
• Bomber Dribblesnot
• Deeproot Strongbranch
• Griff Oberwald
• Hakflem Shuttlespike
• Kreek “the Verminator” Rustgouger
• Morg ‘n’ Thorg
• Cindy Piewhistle
• Drull and Dribl

Druids are a special wizard available only on Earth Day and seem to love the natural order of Blood Bowl: See ball, ignore ball, hit the person in front of you.

A team may hire one Druid for their squad as part of their team budget. The Druid costs 150,000 gold pieces. The Druid functions as a Wizard for all rules limiting Wizards.

Name Price Teams Spells
Druid 150,000 Any team Once per game the Druid may cast one of the following spells:
Strange Flora: You may cast this spell at the end of either player’s team turns, before the next team turn begins. Choose an empty target square anywhere on the pitch and nominate D3 Standing opposition players that are within two squares of the target square. Roll a D6 for each nominated player:
• On a roll of 3+, the player is unexpectedly attacked by daemonic plants of prodigious size that erupt from the loamy earth before rapidly rotting away to nothing
• On a roll of 1 or 2, the player manages to duck and avoid the attacking flora
Any Standing players hit by Strange Flora are Knocked Down. When a player is Knocked Down by Strange Flora, you may apply a +1 modifier to either the Armor roll or Injury roll. This modifier may be applied after the roll has been made.

Tectonic Shift: You may cast this spell at the start of any of the opposition’s team turns, before any player is activated. For the duration of this team turn, there is a -1 modifier applied to the dice roll every time an opposition player attempts to Rush. Note that this modifier applies alongside any other modifiers that apply to attempts to Rush.

Any miniatures are allowed, however each of the models of a particular position must be easily identifiable as such (similar poses, features, etc.). Each of the skills must be presented clearly either by marking the bases or using skill/rubber bands. There will be an award for the best painted team as voted by all participants.

The first round is determined by random pairings. Subsequent rounds will be Swiss pairings meaning that the two teams that will be playing each other will be of similar rankings. In the case that a coach would be paired with a coach they had already played against, the pairing will be broken up to face either up or down one rank to ensure this doesn’t happen.

Standings, and thus the winner of the tournament, will be determined by most points at the completion of the tournament. Ties will be broken by strength of competition. In addition, the top stunty team in the standings will be the Stunty champion.

Scoring will go as follows:
• Win: 10pts
• Draw: 5pts
• Loss: 1pts
• Score 3 or more touchdowns: 2 points
• Cause 3 or more casualties: 2 points
Ties will be broken by strength of competition (measured by opponents’ total score). In case of a further tie, the tournament organizer will pick the winner randomly.

Note that we play Brooklyn Rules here – stabs, secret weapons and fouls can amass casualty points! So can the crowd!

There will be several awards that will be given out at this year’s Empire Cup. Note that coaches may only win one of these awards with two exceptions noted below. The coach may choose which of the awards they are eligible to win to take.

• The Montauk Lighthouse Award (1st place)
• The Orient Point Award (2nd place)
• The Long Island Lolita Award (least points in the tournament)
• The Snob Costas Award (best stunty team)
• The Suffolk Award (most touchdowns)
• The Brooklyn Award (most casualties)
• The Nassau Award (sportsmanship – can be won by a winner of another award)
• The Soho Award (best painted team - can be won by a winner of another award)

We’ll be opening the doors at 10am for registration. You need to be there as close as possible to that time so that we can start on time. The matches will be limited to 2 hours and 15 minutes in length, no timed turns. At the end of the time, games will end and we’ll total up the scores, preparing for the next round.

Can you really put a price on fun? Yes, I supposed you can. The cost will be $20 whether you are a NAF member or not. If you are not a member and want to register for the NAF, it costs $5 at any NAF tournament. Note that you must be a NAF member in order to have your results count towards the BATS.

This tournament is part of the Big Apple Tournament Series. Points for the BATS accumulate through the year and at the end of the year a winner is crowned. For more information on the BATS, see the Northeast Blood Bowl Network (NEBBN) on Discord.

• +10 to +1 points for top 10 placement, on a declining scale. In other words, a 1st-place finish would be worth 10 points, a 2nd-place finish would be worth 9 points, on down to a 10th- place finish being worth 1 point.
• Should there be fewer than 10 coaches (it happens!), the top coach's score would be equal to the total number of participants, the rest would decline as usual.
• +1 point per 10 places below them in the standings. (Examples: A coach finishing 1st in a 32-coach tournament would receive a bonus of +3 because there are 30+ coaches below them. A coach finishing 1st in an 11-coach tournament would receive a bonus of +1 because there are 10 coaches below them. A coach finishing first in a 10-coach tournament would receive no bonus because there are only 9 coaches below them.)
• +1 point per day of the tournament after the first day. Given to all participants.
• Organizer bonus: If the organizer doesn’t play in the tournament, then they get +1 point per 10 coaches in the tournament +1 point per day of the tournament after the first day.
