Tournament Report |
---|
A few years ago I had the desire to organize a Blood Bowl tournament. Now the time had finally come and with Siggi at my side we took the step together. While we were really getting into it, the time had finally come. 40 people ended up attending the 1st Block Forest Bowl.
The first day was pretty stressful (for me at least :-)). Siggi and I took turns as organizers while playing. Each of us played 3 games. Looking back, I can only say that it was good not to have to play six games as an organizer. I played two games on the first day and that was tiring. The laptop crashed in round 1, so the results had to be entered again. Thankfully that was during the lunch break and Volkajo was there to help us out with "Score." This meant that everything was quickly resolved and we could continue. Then it became apparent that a newcomer had spent too little money. I must have sadly missed that beforehand. The rest of the first day was a little more relaxed. After round 1 everyone had a piece of giant pretzel for lunch. In the evening, around 35 coaches were there for a cozy ending in the Greek restaurant. So we could continue the next day relatively early (8:30). This went pretty well. We realized we had to swap two games because we played two games incorrectly in round 1 (unfortunately the teams had similar names), but other than that there were no complications. The lunch break was effectively not a lunch break because people just continued playing straight away. We got through quickly shortly after 4 p.m. and were able to start the award ceremony promptly. This meant that people who had a longer journey could also catch their trains.
In the evening, I heeded the advice on the NAF website and rewarded myself with a glass of wine in a brief moment of silence. All the effort was worth it. The feedback from participants was all positive. If the only criticism is that the location is a bit far away for some participants, we can probably live with that. I can't say yet when there might be a sequel. As with tournaments, I found that I could start again straight away after the initial exhaustion! |
