Information
Welcome to the New Year’s Bash!

Date: Saturday, January 6th, 2024

Location: Barber Engineering, 25 McClellan Rd, Nassau, New York

Cost: $50/pair (lunch will be provided)

Information: Welcome to the second annual New Year’s Bash! This tournament will consist of three rounds, using the common method of Swiss Pairing. This will be a team tournament (Pairs), so partners will be required. For the Swiss pairing, Pairs will be matched by the number of points they have for each round. Inside of these pairings, the higher scoring player from each team will play each other.

We will do our best to avoid people that traveled together playing each other, but that only goes as far as the first round. After that, the matches will be based on the number of points a coach has. We will also avoid repeat matches. No Pair will play another twice. Tournament scoring and tie-breakers will be detailed later in this document. This will be a Resurrection style tournament.

Preregistration is required for this tournament. We will make every effort to include everyone, but necessity will dictate that there be an even number of Pairs on the day of the tournament. Pairs will be registered on a first come, first serve basis. You do not need to have rosters to me before the day of the tournament (although it certainly does not hurt), but you and your teammate will have to have registered three weeks in advance (by Dec 18, 2022). If you do not have a partner, email me at barberp@sunypoly.edu (it’s the email I check most frequently), over Discord (BBR Paladin #7248), or by text message (518-573-2381), and I will keep a running list of who is solo. If you give me contact information, I can put you in touch with a potential partner, and you two can coordinate your teams. When registering, send payment via PayPal to ken@barberstormwater.com. List both coaches’ names, NAF Names, and NAF Numbers.

The Builds:

Each Pair will have 2.5 million gold crowns to build their teams. Each coach must use between 1.2 and 1.3 million gold crowns. Team cost is not based on tiers, but the skill packages are. They are as follows:
Tier 1: 6 skills (2 of which can be secondaries)
Tier 2: 7 skills (3 of which can be secondaries)
Tier 3: 8 skills (3 of which can be secondaries)
Tier 4: 9 skills (4 of which can be secondaries)
Team Builds:
Pairs will have 6 points total, to spend on the teams they want to play. There are four tiers of teams, divided as follows:

Tier 1 (4 points): Amazon, Chaos Dwarf, Dark Elves, Dwarf, Norse, Skaven, Shambling Undead, and Underworld Denizens

Tier 2 (3 points): High Elves, Pro Elves, Wood Elves, Orcs, Khemri, Necromantic Horror, Old World Alliance, Humans, Lizardmen, and Khorne

Tier 3 (2 points): Chaos Renegades, Nurgle, Chaos Chosen, Vampires, Slann, Imperial Nobility, Black Orcs

Tier 4 (1 point): Goblins, Halflings, Ogres, Snotlings

Star Tax:
The New Year’s Bash will implement a Star Tax, a tax for rostering Star Players for the tournament. This will not cost any extra gold, but will be taken from the skill allotment for a team. The tax is based on total gold price for all stars on a team. The tax is as follows:

0 - 95k: 1 skill
100 - 195k: 2 skills
200 - 295k: 3 skills
300 - 395k: 4 skills
400 - 495k: 5 skills
500 - 595k: 6 skills
600 - 695k: 7 skills

Note that this does not take away from the amount of secondary skills a team has. If a set of star players bring a team down to three skills, and they have an allotment of three possible secondary skills, they may use three secondaries.

The Prima Donna Provision:
Some stars are way too good to share the limelight. At least, that’s what they think. As such, to satiate their egos, the TO has ruled that if a team takes them, they cannot play with any other Star Player. There are five stars covered under the Prima Donna Provision:
Hakflem Skuttlespike
Griff Oberwald
Morg N’ Thorg
Bomber Dribblesnot
Cindy Piewhistle

Other than these five, bring on the star combos! Be creative! Give me data!

A few more things to note:
All rule updates up to and including the most recent errata (ie all official releases for the rules) will be included.

Skill stacking on players IS allowed up to the 6 allowed on each player in the Rulebook. (example: Blitzers with tackle, mighty blow, frenzy and arm bar are allowed).

There is NO limit on the number of times a coach can get any individual skill. (You can take 8 blocks, if you like).

All Star Players released and approved for BB2020 up to the date of this tournament will be included. (This includes Spikes, any from White Dwarf, and the Core Rulebook)

Highlander Rule will be in effect, so if two teams take the same Star Player in a match, neither team will be able to field him.

Apothecaries will function as described in the rules.
