Information
Draft tournaments require coaches to think on their feet. They won’t know what star player they will be using until minutes before the game kicks off. Forget forward planning, this is a test of your general coaching ability and will highlight those who can adapt quickly v those who can’t.

COST
The event will cost £15. This covers table hire and the prizes on offer – see below. This does not cover food and drink. However, Sanctuary Gaming offers a great selection of drinks and sugary snacks and there are plenty of fast food places nearby.

The £15 just covers entry to part 1 of the Double Draft weekend.

Double Draft Part 2 – Super Star Smackdown!
Double Draft is a pair of tournaments held over a weekend, one on Saturday (Super Star Smackdown) and one on Sunday (Team Tango). Each event will have its own winner independent of the other, but there will also be a winner across the weekend for whoever does best at each event.

Draft tournaments require coaches to think on their feet. They won’t know what star player (in the Smackdown) or team (in the case of Mayhem) they will be using until minutes before the game kicks off. Forget forward planning, this is a test of your general coaching ability and will highlight those who can adapt quickly v those who can’t.

Do you have what it take to win the ultimate Double Draft . . . . ?

Super Star Smackdown
The Smackdown is an annual tournament held in Nuln and hosted by Spike! Magazine. It’s meant to be a showcase of the brightest and best star players in the league. To that end they invite a load of second-rate teams for those stars to play for so they can really shine. The twist is that the stars could end up playing for any team, regardless of the usual race restrictions. As the tournament moves on the stars will move from team to team until one of them is crowned King or Queen of the Super Star Smackdown. Then as if they weren’t famous enough already, they’ll be drowned is a sea of contracts and endorsement offers. Therefore, winning the Smackdown is a big deal for a star player who will try their utmost on the pitch.

THE DRAFT
The Smackdown is draft style tournament, but instead of drafting players or teams you are instead drafting GW star players. On the day there will be a model and a star player card provided for most of the current GW stars. A few of the stars are not eligible such as anyone flagged as a mega star, they don’t need the smackdown to showcase their talents! Also, stars which come in pairs will not be available – so no Grak & Crumbleberry, no Swift Twins and definitely no Dribl & Drul.

For round 1 the coach draw is done at random as usual. The coaches randomly drawn on the bottom table will then get the chance to select one star of their choice to play alongside their team. Coaches will decide at the same time so as not to be able to outsmart each other. When they have picked, the coaches on the next table get to pick and then the table after that etc.

Coaches may pick any star on offer, they are not restricted by the usual star player special rules. So if you are Undead and want to hire Mighty Zug – feel free if he is available!

For round 2 and 3 its pretty similar, we start with the two coaches on the bottom table. They get to pick their stars first, then the second bottom table etc. Leaving the top table with just whoever is left. There are a couple of rules for picking from round 2 onwards . . . .
1. You cannot pick the same star twice in the event
2. You cannot play against the same star twice. This will of course limit your opponents, choice slightly. It does however mean you don’t have to get pounded to pieces by Ripper Bolgrot for three games in a row.

Who will be playing in the smackdown?
The following stars will be available and there may be more depending upon who GW release and if we have time to get hold of the model and get it painted –

Akhorne the Squirrel
Barik Farblast
Bilerot Vomitflesh
Black Gobbo
Boa Konssriktr
Bryce the Slice Cambuel
Cindy Piewhistle
Eldril Sidewinder
Estelle la veneaux

Gloriel Summerbloom
Glotl Stop
Grashnak Blackhoof
Gretchen Wachter

Varag Ghoul-Chewer
Wilhem Chaney
Willow Rosebark
Withergrasp Doubledrool
Zolcath the Zoat

You may ask is it fair there could be a TV disparity between the teams due to the stars costing a different amount. The simple answer is yes. If there are stars for 250k available and you pick one for 50k, that’s your choice. You could have picked a more expensive one!

TEAM CREATION
As every team is getting a star for free, team building is a little lower than normal. All teams have a TV of 1,050,000. Coaches must pick 11 players before adding rerolls, dedicated fans, cheerleaders, apothecaries and assistant coaches.

The following inducements are available for coaches to hire if they are eligible. Please note, no star players may be hired and no named referees or backroom staff, this event is all about the star players after all and not some other glory seekers.

The number of coaches will be limited to the number of star players available.

SKILLS
Teams will be given a number of skill points depending upon their tier. For the purposes of this event we will use GW tiers with the only exception being that Orcs are considered tier 1 and not tier 2.

Tier 1 – 4 points
Tier 2 – 6 points
Tier 3 – 8 points

These points may be spent as follows –

• 1 point – a primary skill (the same skill may not be chosen more than 2 times)
• 2 points – a secondary skill of your choice (maximum of two).

Tier 1 teams may stack 2 primary skills on one player if they wish, tier 2 teams may stack 2 primary skills on 2 players if they wish and tier 3 players may stack a secondary and a primary skill on 2 players or 2 primary skills on a player instead.

Glittering Prizes
There will be medals for the winners of the following –

• Winner
• Runner Up
• 3rd place
• Most Casualties
• Most Touchdowns
• Rookie Wonder
• Wooden Spoon

Unlike normal, there will be no free swag at this tournament for entry. Instead, there will be a lot of GW stars handed out to the winners of the awards above, as spot prizes, lucky dips and other fun ways of winning stuff. Nobody is allowed to leave with more than one star player other than the overall winner, runner up and third place – if they happen to get two (such as one from a spot prize and one for winning they can keep both). If anyone else gets two stars they can keep one and put the other back in the star pool. That way as many people as possible will leave with a star player model on the day (there will be around 20 in total).

There will also be an award for the coach who attends both parts of the Double Draft weekend and finishes highest overall.

The tiebreakers are –
• Head to head results
• Strength of Schedule
• Combined touchdown and casualty difference
