North America - Team Canada - NAF World Cup

Post subject: Team Canada - NAF World Cup
Coaches of the Great White North!

I am planning on going to the UK next year for the World Cup. After talking to Brian on the weekend I think it's time we start getting our act together and planning for the trip.

I realize the this may seem like it will be too expensive for most people. But I think with a little hard work we can pull it off. What I would like to do is put together the best team possible to kick some Euro ass and bring the Cup to Canada where it belings Wink

I have some ideas for fund raising that I would like to discuss with you guys. My goal is to try and raise as much money as possible to make the trip virtually painless in the wallet region. I would really like to take the top tourney performers to compete with alternates if available. Personally I am thinking of playing as an alternate or rounding out the team if we are short, as well as maybe entering some painting competetions if they have one.

So whaddya say? Who is interested in going? Who is interested in fund raising etc.? Who thinks we should get Zombie over to the UK to meet his fans?! Very Happy

If we can make it relatively painless in the wallet department, I may be able to convince M that it won't mean she will miss out on a different trip with me - and then I could go.

Lets see how I do at the N.America cup...

I think it's a good idea to try and include our significant others in the trip. Afterall a week in the UK is a good time and there is more than enough to keep them busy when we are being nerds. The shopping alone should be enough to convince them to go Very Happy

I think that any fundraising would be a good idea to ensure we can get a good showing out there.

Let the Brits get the full Zombie experience! But God help us all (yes Zombie, I said "God") if another trophy makes it's way back to Montreal!

The trophy will come back to CANADA. This is an international team remember Wink

I'm up for doing whatever it takes to make this happen. I would love to go myself as i have never been to Europe and I'm sure my better half would love to go also.

Count me in!!

I'll throw my name out for consideration. I've got alot of things that could affect my ability to go next year, but I'm planning to go now so I might as well help get ready.

Fund raising sounds like a good idea. How about every time you beat someone at a tournament, they have to give you $20 to help pay your trip Smile

Seriously though, count me in for Team Canada.

I am interested on helping out Team Canada how I can, as I will almost definitely not be going.

Do you think auctioning off a custom made board would be a good way to raise funds? I will do it, if it would fetch enough money. What do you think the best forum would be? NAF? At the Q'ermitt? Ebay?
AnthonyTBBF - Mar 07, 2006 - 10:13 AM
Post subject:
That is defintely a good idea. Every little bit helps.

I would advertise it on all the boards and use EBay to do the auction. I have to figure out how all this is gonna work yet so hang on to that idea.
CyberHare - Mar 07, 2006 - 10:15 AM
Post subject:
I'm in though it's very unlikely I'll be playing for Team Canada. Possibly as an alternate if needed. I'll be very busy running the event.

I totally agree we should try to get as many wives/girlfriends to go with us. The bigger a group we head over with the bigger a blast this will be. Now that we probably won't be in Nottingham there should be plenty of time for sight seeing as well. If we look at making this a weeks vacation and all head in and out on the same day I'm sure we can get a good price on some group rate tickets. We'll just need to book early.

I know I guy with a little 15 foot sailboat back in Halifax. I'm sure we can borrow that for a couple months if we get desperate.

Also, the link for the group doesn't seem to be working for me.

We're not sure what the NAF's team selection criteria will be, so we have no idea how the teams are supposed to be selected. Anyway for now I suggest you join the mailing list.

I think they left it up to each country to determine who plays for their team.

I suggest we form a comittee lead by our countries greatest player ever to select who will play for us Smile

Or, we just take whoevers willing to help fundraise and pay for their trip to the UK.

It's 'cause losing the bet doesn't have the same impact when you start bald. Sad

How will the break up of teams be handled. Will all coaches have to bring a different team, or can two or more coaches bring the same team.

We're not sure yet. If it is simiilar to the Euro Bowl and NA Cup each team member will have to bring a different race.

You can get a good preview of the World Cup rules here..

http://www.bloodbowl.net/modules.php?op=modload&name=PNphpBB2&file=viewtopic&t=2863&start=105

The NEW World Cup in Philly will be a testing ground for these rules so the World Cup in 2007 will run pretty much the same.

Bunch of frakkin' Easterners... Laughing

You realize for it to be an actual NATIONAL team you're going to need national players...so ergo count the West in as given enough heads-up I'm sure I can drag ourselves out there to give them "What for!" Twisted Evil

Still wish the format allowed Starplayers, and what IS with the outrageous amount for Secret Weapons? The Starplayers are now balanced out and the secret weapons as my fellow Goblin's coaches note aren't exactly game-breakers either. Razz

And sure they have to have different teams...though I'd think it more interesting if the teams had "point values" assigned and therefore forced the EuroPEONS to actually show some skill and be forced to choose teams that MAYBE don't fair so well except in the hands of brilliant coaches. (Which then guarantees the Cup comes home to Canada as we have the Goblin end nice and covered...) Rolling Eyes

...as the thought of me bringing ANOTHER team to this just feels oh so WRONG! Shocked
AnthonyTBBF - Mar 09, 2006 - 01:24 PM
Post subject:
There's no point in speculating who will be on the international team at this point.

Besdies, even if you're not on the international team you can still play in the open tournament.
Paul - Mar 09, 2006 - 01:28 PM
Post subject:
Hey, you got me from Halifax, some guys from Quebec and some guys from Ontario. We don't need the west Smile

And anthonys right. Its way to early to figure out whos coming, we're just spitballing ideas for fund rasing so the guys can come without taking out another mortgage or a loan on their car.

Well as it turns out it seems we don't have any funds raised for team Canada after all. Certain people from the NWC have complained about "subsidizing Canada" and I've had my fill of the childish behavior. All the funds I raised for both Canada and the US will be turned over to Team USA.
Hoshi_Komi - Jun 13, 2006 - 07:47 PM
Post subject:
tsk, tsk brian. canadians attended the NA cup event too. I think their $40 should go to Canada....it's not like you're completely free of this childish behavior either. And it's only been me which has openly voiced the concern. If you would've been more upfront of the fundraising, people wouldn't feel indifferent to your fundraising measures.

also no one said my views speak for all of the US...

How much more up front than in the rule book right under the tournament costs do you want it to be?. Should I have maybe had a big banner and a hat?

No Ken it hasn't only been you. Since you decided to out yourself that's up to you. If it were only you I'd laugh it off. It's been a month of crying about this or that from that event and I wash my hands of it.

the tourney book no one really got until the tourney, I asked you to place the link on the front page....but no === u were to busy to even do that. No one could find the stupid rulebook. You even failed to mail the rulebook out like you said you would.

Why don't you guys save this shit for pm's rather then posting information all over the forums and giving people mixed information.

All your doing is tarnishing your image which i don't want to see as i personally know you guys and know that yoour intentions are to do what's best for the game.

Perhaps after you get all the facts straight then you can post something on the forum explaining the situation for everyone to view.

Lately i've noticed these forums have become more of a Jerry Springer side show.
