Post subject: Magnetic Bases and Balls
Hi everyone, in my Frugal Gaming blog this week, I look at how to make magnetic bases and balls using rare earth magnets.

Check it out here.

Cheers

Another way to do this, that only requires half the magnets, is to glue a penny beneath the base. I like this as it weighs down the plastics which tend to be a bit light, and also allows you to stick the ball to it with a rare earth magnet.

Thats a new use to those magnetics and an interesting way to keep the ball in the players base.
Perhaps those (magnets) should come with a "Sure base" skill...

Anyway cool idea, thanks for sharing!

New guy here. I know these magnets are pretty strong. Has anyone experienced a ball "jumping" from an adjacent square to a players base because they were too close. Or, two players sticking together.

It can happen - using base weights can be one way to prevent the players from "making out". But the ball will generally not jump once it is attached to a player's base.

BUT what might happen is that one of your magnetic players "steals" the ball from a non-magnetic player Wink

At that point I'd call a turnover as it was obviously Nuffle's will Wink

LOL
Obviously!
Everyone knows that the only way to counter "Magnetic Strip (Ball)" is with "Sure Base".

I've had guys stick together via the magnets, especially if one is down and one next to him is standing. Just takes a little tweaking on the field to make them stop though.

I played a game like that yesterday. His players would atuomatically steel the ball from my team when he got in my tackle zone

Edit:Spelling

Is that with the Impact! holded magnet weights, magnets, and polarized ball?

I tested this mix and never found what you describe above that to happen against a team with these 3 items ... the position of the magnet in the base weight and the type of metal in our ball in my testing just didn't have enough pull from that distance to steal the ball. So if it is our stuff ... I'd like to see what I can do to fix that if possible.

I know this post is old... I didn't magnetize my bases but put some 12 gauge sheet metal glue to the underside and just magnetized my ball. This is much easier to do and lets everyone in the league not have to spend money on magnets... since they all use my boards. Just a thought for those trying to be frugal.
