North America - Dagger Bowl III - February 27th, 2010

Daggers - Dec 15, 2009 - 10:38 AM
Post subject: Dagger Bowl III - February 27th, 2010
The one day tourney is back for another year. Same rules as before, Big Guys/Monsters 1/2 price with Pro at no additional cost (not Ogre teams).

Rules will be fully updated and posted on the site, and (hopefully) Eric can update the site to include registration and such.

The date is wrong in the tourney section, and I can't update it.

This is on my To-Do list, amongst other sites. And, I did recently come across a very old email about updating the DB site which got misplaced and forgotten Embarassed

It will be the next in line after I do the CCKO now that they have finally chosen a date.

I was going to double check with you first to see if you could make it. But this was the only weekend I could do it in Feb.

No worries, I will still come to the Sweetbun, I won't take it personally.

Don't take it personally, I have a hard time getting Ottawa guys to attend my tourney. Hence why the numbers are so small, no point doing a two-day with 10 coaches.

Eric updated the site (kinda), thanks Eric. I am hoping to get the rules updated by the end of the week. You can now register for the tourney, so I can get an idea of numbers (although it might be a small crowd this year. And there will be a history section to see past winners and such.

Actually, I had forgot to send the history of Dagger Bowl II, that was Eric who inputted that. How he forgot you won after the long car-ride home listening to you boast about your BB skills is beyond me.

Thanks Adam, hopefully it will be more than just me and you. 10-12 would be awesome, but I have a hunch it will be less. Oh well, just more leftovers for Joe to take home.

Lol, Think we should have at least 8 or so, one more signed up. Hopefully can drag Glenn, Alex, Stephan, Rob K out. Would definitely help. If Joe and Marc-Andre come as well. Any out of towners and we would be okay for double digits. I don't mind either way as it would still be fun if we only had 6 people but the more numbers the better. Take it easy.

Glenn confirmed he was gonna make it out this year, the rest I am not sure. If our American Blood Bowl bretheren can make it, 10 people should not be that hard. As long as we stay under 16, or my house gets a little crowded.

Nate, if you go under tourney section on here you can go to Daggerbowl link, click on Comprehensive Rules and you will get last years version of the rules. I believe Mark said they would be the same. It is just if we are going to continue using LRB6/CRP.

Basically, you have one million to build your roster, no skill upgrades, Big Guys are 1/2 price (rounding up) and receive PRO skill. 4 games all on Saturday. Want to organize some sort of Friday or Saturday night event but will need to speak to Mark first.

Hope this helps

I finished the rules and will send them to Eric tonight. Hopefully he can post the quickly.

The TV is 115, but the rest was correct as Adam mentioned. This Friday Saturday thing has been mentioned by afew other people, but I will figure out something. Likely some festivities Friday night, since I know afew people want to leave shortly after on Saturday. Anyways, more will be posted soon, by the weekend at the latest.

Hey guys, I have attached the link for last years rules...don't think there are many changes. Only thing not included is Deathroller can be purchased at half price as well but is considered a Secret Weapon (sent off after one drive).

Bribes are only available to goblin teams as well, don't make the mistake I did in the first Daggerbowl and buy a bribe for the Deathroller Very Happy. Didn't notice the mistake until the last game that year either.

Anyways here is the link all http://rubli.ca/Dagger-Bowl/DaggerBowl09.pdf

Only inducements allowed are bribes for Goblins, and Master Chef and Deeproot for Halflings. Everyone else can only buy players, rerolls, fan factor, Assistant coaches, cheerleaders, etc etc.

The Dagger Bowl has now been updated with all the rules and a fancy new[ish] look. Let me know if anything is not correct [format, spelling mistakes, etc.] as I did the update after getting 3 major fillings done and I and buzzing with endorphins and doctor administered pain killers . . . Cool

On a side note...finally got the hard copy of the PC Game (Dark Elves Edition) and it is sick, wicked & nasty. Love it just for the sheer number of games you can get in, in a short period of time. You could get a tournaments worth of gaming in one evening alone.

Don't get me wrong it won't replace the table top version, but I think it will help it expand exponentially.

@ Mark, I could bring it over Friday evening before your tourney on Saturday and we could have a mini-tourney the night before as well...that is if your cool with some of us crashing there the Friday night, let me know what you think.

I love the PC game just for the same reason, games are 1/3 of the time and you can play lots of games in a short time. I still prefer tabletop, but this is a nice replacement.

I already have the game Adam, so I won't need your copy. The problem is my computer is really slow right now (harddrive is at 100% capacity), so it takes a while to load games up. But we can play some of that as well as FIFA, I can hook both up to my TV (I think).

People can crash at my place if they want, I will just need an idea of numbers to ensure I have space. But either way, Friday night festivities is all good in my books.

All sounds good Mark, game seems to take awhile to load regardless. Looking for some people to play that I know or are playing in a league, seems a little complicated getting a random game going. I'll definitely come by the friday evening then, grab some munchies, alcohol, and just get some gaming on. Take it easy,

Also, if any of you are online let me know your online names/leagues your in so we can hook up for some games.

Joe, can you bring your laptop and does it have the game? That would be easier than people playing on my computer.

**NOTE** People crashing at my place need to bring blankets and pillows. There seem to be alot of people staying over Friday, and I only have so many beds/couches/futons, so people will likely be on the floor.

Also there is Leathan and Colin haven't heard from. What about Mike Olsen? Should be a few local crowd that roll in last minute too.

I tried to get ahold of Pat, Leathan and Colin, but no response yet. Manu was a surprise sign up, but welcome. Mike Olson is in East Asia for four months travelling around, so he is not playing in any tourneys until after June (and even then its iffy until he decides where he is moving too).

I would gladly try and paint another fig, but cannot find a spare suitable for a lineman. I will take another look. I have a plastic human lineman, but they are so freakin ugly I don't want to use it.

Ha, the womens team beat us last year in the final, that won't happen twice. The mens beat us once this tournament, that won't happen twice. You saw what we did to Russia in the quarters. All will fear the destructive power of Canadian hockey.

That's awesome guys, too bad you can't make it for the Friday evening as we're all gettin' together at Mark's to watch the Canada Hockey game, PC/Xbox Bloodbowl, FIFA, whatever everyone is up for. Hope you can make it up. Take it easy gents.

@ Mark, what time are you cool with us swinging by your place for? Just want a rough idea what works for you, don't know when game time is for the hockey game either. Glenn and Stephan were planning on coming by after Steph finishes work as well if that's cool. Don't worry about space we're all accustomed to sleepin' on the floor if necessary. Can't wait, need the relief from regular day to day nonsense right now. See you all tomorrow.

Look out b!tches! Spazz is in! Thanks to Mr. Big Wheels Rubli for providing the transportation, that was all the excuse I needed! We will also be in attendance with my trusty sidekick and comic relief: Peter "I'm cool 'cuz I drink beer" Flanders.

Now to figure out which teams I want to crush you all with.....

Thats amazing guys, I had a message from Peter saying he was driving up Saturday morning, hopefully the weather agrees with you. Should be a good turn-out this year. Afew more and I may need to get another table.

Adam, any time after 7ish is good. I have some things to do after work, but should be home by then. The game starts at 9:30.

Maybe Pete can teach you guys some of his farm yoga this weekend, wonder if "Rosta Rooster" will be there? Wink

Just looking over the weather forecast along the route; this could be one interesting trip. BTW, is it possible for the 3 of use to crash somewhere on Saturday night [ . . . and maybe for the a couple days after if we get snowed in Wink ] ?

@Mark: PM me your phone number so that we can contact you in case we cannot make it. That way you guys do not think we are stuck in a ditch on the 417 . . .

I do not want that guy anywhere near me, let alone near children. Shocked

Though chilling with a giant Rastafarian Rooster would be a trip.

Matt and Andy from NY aren't gonna be able to make it now. I think Andy parents gave him shit from what Matt was mentioning.

Damned if I have any clue who is or isn't coming, I think we are back at 11 without me included.

Congratulations to Glenn Jones for winning Dagger Bowl, and thank you to everyone for making it out to the tourney. Glenn managed to clean up at the awards taking home 4 of 6 awards (Tournament Champion, Best D, Most CAS, Least CAS), with Peter Meers stealing Best Offence, denying him the clean sweep. Had a blast watching from the sidelines, and hope everyone had a good time. Up until the final game, it was very close in the standings, but some strong final performances boosted afew people up the rankings and into award position for something. One big surprise was a Chaos Dwarf team recieving the most casualties in the tournament with 13, and thats including a halfling team playing (ouch). All in all a very close battle to the end, with only 3 people ending up with losing records, resulting in a very small margin between 2nd and 9th (less than three to be more accurate).

Final standings will be posted soon.

Thanks to Mark for hosting the tourney and having us over the Friday as well. Had an awesome time (except for getting my as* handed to me in my first game by Leathan Sad ). Thanks to my opponents as all the matches were nail biters except for the previously mentioned one of course. Still can't believe I ended up in 2nd place, was a complete shock when it was announced. Of course Glenn cleaned up with 4 awards so everything else seems to pale in comparison. Take it easy all and hope to see you at a tourney in the near future or online for a few games in the meantime.

Awesome time! Really enjoyed the one day tourney format. My only regret with this event was that there was no Best Sportsmanship Award, as I was tied for first place! Sad

Just trying to rebuild my bad rep from the CCKO! (grumble grumble..... give ME the Brass Asss will ya......)

Thanks Mark and Andrea for hosting and cooking! Who am I kiding, thanks to Andrea Wink

Seriously, thanks Mark. It was fun beating your ass at Fifa friday night Smile
Cheers mate.

Thanks to all my foes too. Some good games. Last two were blow outs though. It was weird to be on both sides of it in such a short space of time. So, sorry to you Zap_Rowsdower, and curses to you Glenn!!! But you did owe me one Smile

My 2-1-1 record at dagger bowl is consistent at least, 3 times in 3 tournies. I think I'll bring flings next time and see if I can make it 4 from 4 Smile

Fun to see you all! Especially Manz62 and pepe-le-pony, it had been a while!

Ok to add to the Phoenix action.

I just went through and inputted the trophies I could work out for all the 10 dagger bowls. So they should show up on your coach pages now.

This is the final standings I could work out without access to the casualties data.
