League Discussions - NAF-hosted OBBLM

sann0638 - Dec 23, 2014 - 02:36 AM
Post subject: NAF-hosted OBBLM
While the work by the NAF League Committee continues, in the interim we are aware that there are a few leagues out there who would like to use OBBLM but are not confident about getting it set up, so have a solution! You can see full details here, but basically if you are a NAF member you can have your League hosted for free, or get full guidance about getting it set up, so no excuses!

Merry Christmas!

We are talking about moving our League (currently in 9 season) to OBBLM for season 10. I have tons of questions about what it can do or what it cannot do. I think the only way of knowing it to get a site set up and play test it a bit. We don't want to to lose the history of the teams, players and past games, but think a site for the players to see would be best.

Is it possible to get a site set up for me and kilowog1 as the admin to play around with?
Gaixo - Feb 24, 2015 - 07:30 AM
Post subject: RE: NAF-hosted OBBLM
You don't have to lose your old teams unless you want to be included in the NAF's league tracking program. You just have to manually input existing SPPs and skills.
scottprime - Feb 24, 2015 - 12:41 PM
Post subject: RE: NAF-hosted OBBLM
So if we wanted all the past seasons and the stats from those seasons and games. Would simply have to go back and recreate each season and input stats for each game? Is that correct?
Gaixo - Feb 24, 2015 - 01:08 PM
Post subject: RE: NAF-hosted OBBLM
Right, that is possible. But you can't just have a player start with 5 casualties or whatever without creating past games to account for them. Or at least I'm not aware of a way to do so. My league only converted to OBBLM about a month ago, so I'm probably missing some tricks.

Post subject: RE: NAF-hosted OBBLM
We also have every team play the Halfling All Stars as an easy game to get some spp's. All the Halflings since they are all-stars have one random skill and we never take stats for them. They reboot each game like a team made of Star players. Would this effect anything?

Again maybe I should just play with it to see if it will do what I want it to do. What do I need to do to set that up Nate?

I don't think so. You (by which I mean "an OBBLM admin") could just keep them at 6 SPPs and switch the skills (or not) every game. So if you wanted to keep real stats for the halfling stars you could do so, and then just manually remove SPPs to keep them from ever leveling up.
sann0638 - Feb 25, 2015 - 07:20 AM
Post subject: RE: Re: RE: NAF-hosted OBBLM
And an OBBLM admin could be a local league admin, so just a member of the league.

Post subject: RE: Re: RE: NAF-hosted OBBLM
Of course.

Speaking of which...Steve, don't you guys have a website for the podcast and tournaments? Unless you're working with limited space, you can just put OBBLM on there. I guess I don't know much about how the free hosting works. Do you have access to the settings file(s) and all that?
Kilowoggy - Feb 27, 2015 - 08:10 PM
Post subject: RE: Re: RE: NAF-hosted OBBLM
That's Scott, I'm Steve. Smile
But yeah, we do have webspace, but it's not free. Plus we're not the most tech saavy of people, so having it hosted by NAF seemed easiest.
Plus, might as well make use of them when offered.
But the idea of hosting on our own has come up.

Coming to this a bit late but you can import an entire team including all the TD's CAS etc for each player, etc. It will import the team but just won't count those towards top ten lists etc you setup on the front page. Those lists are locked to games an actual match report is submitted for. If you have starting rosters and every match report you could recreate your entire history for all that tracking as well. I can show you how when you guys come up for the tourney next weekend.

Mike's away right now and has been keeping this ticking over while I work on a new version of obblm for the naf hosting. Maybe I can help? Drop me a PM if so, I'll see what I can do.

My league needs to move to a new OBBLM site. (We were previously hosted on a member's laptop and he moved out of state, so...)

If we host with the NAF, we will have access to the data files? Specifically the lib file? A lot of my players are really into the team management side of it so we are always messing about with house rules (Fan Factor adjustments, TV reductions for injuries, etc.) and to keep it manageable it's much easier if I can just change the data files rather than keep such things offline.
Shteve0 - Nov 25, 2015 - 03:10 PM
Post subject: RE: Re: RE: Re: RE: Re: RE: NAF-hosted OBBLM
Unfortunately not, but the ability for a commish to adjust fan factor from the front end will be rolled out in the next couple of days. The commish can already manage player skills, value, spps and gold from the admin panel on the team page - there's really no need to change the database files for what you've described Smile

Hi,

For some reason my league's title field is blank in the drop down boxes.
League name is KRBBL.

My second query is how do I create a second season? I can't seem to find the option.

Many thanks,

Hi Oli

I fixed your league name issue.

You can create a new season by going to admin > leagues divisions and tournaments > Tournaments and creating a new one in there. Then when you want it to show on your main page go to Admin > League preferences and select it as your primary tournament Smile

When I try to change league any League preferences of new Brakun Kallokerho got this error:
Oh Noes! The league administration module has failed the ptid!=stid check. Please alert your administrator!

I'm trying to set starting cash to standard 1000 000 and I do have local leage comissioner status.

Thank you.

Post subject: RE: Re: RE: Re: RE: Re: RE: Re: RE: NAF-hosted OBBLM
Good afternoon,

I understand that the NAFLM does not currently have any means of importing data for old seasons. We have found a way to transfer our self-hosted OBBLM instance to another host. We are currently running an older version and are looking to get to the newest version. Here's what I would like to do, the question is whether the NAF can do it:

1. Get a linux host with the required LAMP extensions
2. Copy the league database over to the new host
3. Upgrade the OBBLM version to the latest NAFLM version

If the NAF can do that, we'd love to be a part of the NAFLM. If it can, who is responsible for administering the site? What I mean by administering is not just managing the data, but also the data files. Meaning, if we decide to adopt the BB2016 rules (voting on it tomorrow), can we update the roster files accordingly to represent the changes in the ruleset? We also have customized the Brettonian roster to be consistent with the Cyanide roster.

Can one of the staff members answer?

Thanks,
Marc

Hi,

New member and table top league commish.

If I create a league here do all the players need to be members of the NAF?

I am frustrated as I also tried going the route of setting up a league hosted by the other webservice but i'm not comfortable with importing XML files and FTP management etc. I heard that being a NAF member and setting up my league through NAF would be easier but there seems to be even less management options than the other route.

Help? Am I missing something?

Hi sorry for the long delay here but no your players don't need to be NAF members. They do recommend at least one person be a NAF member.
Personally it took a while to get the NAFLM set up through the NAF team but once set up it's been very easy to use. Catchers haven't as far as I can tell been updated for BB16 but I think that's coming this week.

May be too late to be helpful to you.

Hey Guys,

I'm the Newest NAF member. Looking to set up a league on OBBLM.

I've sent the request for the league i wish to start. Had nothing back tho. No email or word of any kind.
How long does a new league tend to take to get cleared? I'm commissioner but my NAF registered players are chomping at the bit to get into the league.

Hi Cosmodon,
I'm assuming it's the basic User registration you are looking for. Select Login from the main menu and then on the login screen there is a Register option for new users.
You can then request a new League with the Request a League option from the Home menu.
Any problems, let me know.

Setting up my league on NAF hosted OBBLM while we find a home but I have "No Settings file exists for league" all over the page. Reading the info on GitHub I see how to update if I was hosting. Is that the only way to have the settings file updated, is if we have access to the directories on the back end or am I missing a form somewhere where I can update them. Note: this doesn't seem to effect the actual league play, just doesn't look great.
