Painting - New Elf Team ...

Post subject: New Elf Team ...
Yesterday I received the New Elves boxed team, and I've to say ....
DON'T BUY IT !!! Sad

In my humble opinion :

- Too much "static" poses.
- Lost the classical GW "Elf look", right proportions e too much "Human
faces", (poor sculpted) actually the best model are the masked one
- It's difficoult to distinguish between Blitzer and Linelf
- Only one poses for Trower (but I'm not sure on this one ...)
- Really too expensive!"

Let me know what you think about it !!!

Cheers

I think the Elves are fantastic models, you sure you didn't order some Orcs? Wink

Bought the team - got them a few days ago - am still looking at them. *sigh*

They're lovely!

1) Their hands are the right size...
2) They look like "proper" elves"
3) Their poses are graceful yet realistic (come on - the high elves just look slliy with their head sized fists at their shoulders!!!)
4) Nice detail...

- The blitzers ARE hard to see, but its a kind of elven subtlety I think Wink

Too expensive? Not at all...

Well done GW - buy that team!!!

In fact my housemate likes them so much he's going to buy his own and we're gonna have a painting contest Surprised

I'd like to see an Elf team painted in something other than the orange on display in BB Magazine. Please, for the love of Nuffle, choose something else and post it so I can get that picture out of my mind! Smile

Hum... PLayed against them at the BloodBowl (a GW staff coach), and sure, it wasn't the same than the 2nd edition ones... But they were nice too, IMHO.

I would try, when i will get my hands on them, to make a small conversion on a catcher... it could be something like a diving catch, if you see what i mean (arf, stupid to be french, sometimes, and unable to have an average english knowledge Wink )

That would be nice if it was true. I would then be able to afford more teams. Razz

Don't worry about the pads. Heck, my GenCon tourney team has orange pads. But crikey, the whole uni? Give them points for selecting a color that hasn't been done to death, but subtract a bunch of points for selecting that particular color Wink

My 'new' Elf Blitzer....

Any good?

(Anyone know how I make this pic appear smaller?)

I'm not sure you'd want to, that's HUGE! Nice, though.

But, to answer your question, there are tags you can use, img and /img for images. Make sure the tag is between [], then put the URL of the picture between the tags. For example, {img}http://www.website.com/picture.jpg{/img}. Of course, make sure its [], not {}. Smile

I hate to say it, but the new elves look pretty dissappointing given the amount of detail on the last elf team (the gladiators with the white lions etc.) Granted the facemasks are cool but that's easily made with some green stuff. Are these to replace the wood elf of the high elf team?
Darkson - Jul 23, 2003 - 12:15 PM
Post subject:
They aren't replacing any elf team. That's right, we're getting 4 elven squads.
And then we lose the undead Rolling Eyes

There will still be 3 Undead teams. Rolling Eyes

Yep, 2 'characterful & sensical' teams and 1 'weirdo, mixed up background' team....
AnthonyTBBF - Jul 23, 2003 - 02:00 PM
Post subject:
I thought that at first too, but since then I've grown to like the idea. Keeping in mind the BB world is sort of a wacky version of the Warhammer world it is a bit easier to accept. Imagine a crazy Necromancer who pieces together a BB team from dead people bits! That's how I see it anyways.
Tutenkharnage - Jul 23, 2003 - 02:12 PM
Post subject:
The only real issue, IMO, is the inclusion of the Werewolf on the Necromantic team. Blood Bowl has always had this sort of "shtick" - witness the Werewolf-Treeman interaction in Second Edition's description of the Woof Woof skill. If that isn't up your alley, just make your own house rules for the team. I know I did.

-Chet

P.S. The new Werewolf and Flesh Golem minis look awesome. Those who said GW added those players "just to sell old Frank and Wilhelm models" should know better next time!
Tutenkharnage - Jul 23, 2003 - 02:14 PM
Post subject:
For the record, the NFL's Necromantic team looks much like a mirror of the Khemri:

* 0-4 Flesh Golems
* 0-2 Wights
* 0-2 Ghouls
* Loads of Zombies

If you're wondering where the Werewolves are, they're on their own team with their own Linemen, Runners, and Blitzers.

I like the mirror team. I would prefer the Khemri. I don't have the 2003 annual yet so not sure of the changes from the magazine.

Well i was tempted not to say anything, but in the end i cant resist.

personally i dont really like the new elf mini's. In fact to be honest i dont really like any of the new mini's that have come out the scale seems to small on everything, almost like they've shrunk in the mold.

I agree about their being no great distinction between the Blitzer and Linemen, reminds me of the Amazon team in that respect, where you spend half the turn saying, "oh is that a blitzer or a lineman".

I'm not that happy with the catchers either. One in that pose is ok, but i would have liked to see a second completely different pose.

The Thrower however i like ( Hurrah ). I've seen the new necro figures and i have to say they do look good, but the vamp figures i'll reserve judgement yuntil i've seen them all in the flesh, the one i'm painting for the Legay team is a nice model but again its too damn small.

The only bonus for me is that in the team that arrived one of the blitzers ( Well i think it was a blitzer )arrived missing an arm ( -2 AG i guess ).
Mail order despatched me a full blister to replace so i'm only 1 player off a full team Wink

Heh..you wanna see the new Griff and Varag! Shocked
AnthonyTBBF - Aug 01, 2003 - 08:37 AM
Post subject:
Yes, they are the best of the new minis IMO. Varag especially! I hope they do a whole new Orc team in that style.

Well I like them - and I'm doing a really good paint job for a change - I agree with McDeth over the distinction problem - hence my use of base ring colours on these models....

Even if you don't like them, I suppose we can all be glad that there ARE new miniatures for the game....

p.s. I still prefer all the new stuff to the old 3rd ed teams. Maybe just 'cos its new, or maybe because the new minis haven't got hands bigger than their heads Surprised

Can't complain about that, but the elf blitzer on the first page seems like a human at first glance. Perhaps it's just the picture...

The ears are the only thing on the blitzer that says 'It's an elf' and they are pretty hard to make out. Otherwise, it isn't a bad figure. Here is the paint job of my blitzer.

I don't think much of the pictures shown in WD 283 and BBMag 8, but then again I am not forced into any particular deadline with my painting unlike the folks at GW. Will try to get pics of the other guys posted.

oki, i bought the team as well and like them very much. But can someone tell me which ones are the blitzers?!? Laughing

If they're the ones with masks,i've got at least 4 of them!!! :lo:

The catchers are the ones leaping in the air.
The throwers have the ball.
The blitzers are the ones with the full face masks.
The linemen are the ones with the partial face masks or no face mask.

Hope that helps a bit.
