Hello Blood Bowl Enthusiasts. The World Cup Organizing Committee is proud to announce the first part of the Team Building Procedure for the World Cup.

First of all, from this point foward the word "team" only refers to the miniature team of a coach. The group of coaches, which will be playing together as a unit will be called "SQUAD" from now on. This is done in order to avoid confusion when we talk about teams and such.

As it was done in the past, each squad will field different teams for each coach, i.e. no race can be chosen twice within a squad.

The World Cup IV will be the first to allow substitute coaches for a squad. This means a squad can consist of 6-7 coaches. A substitution may only be done on a day-by-day basis. This means, by the end of each day before the next round is announced a squad captain will announce his line-up for the next day. No other substitutions are allowed during a day or after the draw for the first game in the morning is announced.

Each coach will accumulate points for every game and the line-up of each squad will be ranked for the next game by their actual collected points, i.e. the coach with the most points will play at table 1 within the squad, the coach with the least points will be playing at table 6. The non-playing coach will not receive any points during a game.

Is is allowed that a coach can be re-entered into the squad line-up, e.g. he/she is playing day 1, sits out during day 2 and can play again on day 3. The non-playing coach is not allowed to give advise to his/her playing squad members while they are playing a match. Viewing a match is permitted, of course.

The organizing committee may ask a non-playing coach to help out to play for other another squad if a need arises in case of emergencies or short-notice drop-outs.

When the registration opens next year, it will be possible to sign up as a group (squad) or as a single coach. The single coaches will be assembled to a freebooter squad by the organizing committee.

Any other information about point system, tier system and progression of teams will be announce next year.

Stay tuned for more exciting news about the WORLD CUP IV

The tournament rules are on the Webpage now. They can be found under Home->Rules
Currently they are available in English and Spanish....The other 3 official languages will be updated as soon as our translators have finished (no, we do not use Google.... only for the News page)

There is also an Excel sheet for roster creation available, which is designed to accommodate the team building at the World Cup. You can find it under Goodies->Downloads
NB: The sheet allows you to choose skills, which certain players already have. Please use common sense when creating your roster. Even a lineman with 3x Dodge doesn't give you the benefit of re-rolling a failed a´dodge more than once per turn. If you choose a skill twice it is wasted.

The Thornpear Valleyshockers, the official World Cup miniature team started its World Tour at the Dungeonbowl last weekend. It is an Underworld team, featuring a mountain troll, 9 individual cave goblins and 6 individual Percht players. Perchts are a creatures from the mythology of the area around Lake constance. You can see them every year at the Fasnacht (carnival celebration in late winter). Tour T-shirts are on sale now. We will try our best to send them to every tourney of the teams World Tour.

As in Lucca, every squad has to bring at least 3 game boards to cover for every game. Please note, that only the NEW SIZE pitches are allowed due to the large number of new size minis we expect. We highly recommend to get one of the World Cup IV pitches, which have the correct size.

Hi all.
I have a couple of doubts ater reviewing the registration procedure. It asks to select one of the organizing countries to be supported by the team. How is it going to work? Will there be some kind of trophy for the best team in any of them? Will it have an impact on the tournament? You got me curious.

Also, it asks for the tshirt size, but doesn´t give any further clues. Will there be some kind of commemorative tshirt from the WC? It would be awesome. Also, in that case, we need some kind of size guide in order to select the closest to our body figure (round just not makes it).

I hope I didn´t spoil anything in advance and I´m really looking forward to next year´s October. I know the WC will be great.

After review of the last announcement of the World Cup organisation team, we will modify the ruling on the pitches as following:
- Every squad has to bring 3 gaming boards (pitches). No exception allowed. It is still recommended to bring new scale boards.
- If a coach brings a new scale team or his team has at least 4 miniatures on bases 32mm or larger, he/she is required to bring a new scale pitch. This may force a squad to bring more than just three boards.
- If two different scaled teams are playing against each other, the new scale board is mandatory to be used. Refs will enforce this rule if called to this table in case of a dispute.
- The ONLY exception is if a coach brings a self-made stadium of the old scale and the opponent agrees to play on a lovely scenery board. This is in order to respect and honor the time and effort a coach has put into building a great looking stadium.

The NAF committee has approved this ruling in their last meeting.

Outside of this ruling, we still recommend to get one of the limited edition World Cup pitches. A World Cup pitch will count towards the above ruling and fulfills the requirement to bring a board.

Selecting the host country has no effect on the tournament itself. There will be several fun things happening around this, but this will a surprise for the coaches. One of these things was announced in the podcast "World Cup Report" (episode #2 I believe)

If we exceed a certain number of participants, there will be a commemorative shirt for all. Outside of the regular sizes S to 4XL, we can't give other information. If in doubt, order the next bigger size Wink

I am excited and will probably be signing up as a single player on the first day of registration.
There is no way I am bringing a board all the way from Indiana but I am thinking of getting all of the tourney goodies so I will have the official tournament pitch anyway. I just have to save room in my luggage to get everything home.
I originally tried to get an All-Hoosier team together (Hoosier=Citizen of Indiana) but none of the people I know here will travel for this. Sad
I wouldn't be opposed to battling under a Welsh, French, Quebec, or English flag if there are groups coming from those locations that just happen to be missing a single player. I guess I should take the next couple of days to ask some of my contacts in these areas. Wink

Shipping possibility at the WorldCup:

We will offer the possibility at the WorldCup that pitches and figures can be shipped worldwide. For this purpose we will provide shipping labels for self filling. Please leave a note on the shipping in the comment field. The shipping costs have to be paid by you at the WorldCup. To save shipping costs, several pitches and teams can be shipped together if desired. We then bring the finished packages to the post office.

Topic: Host Countries - Germany/Austria / Switzerland / Liechtenstein

We were asked a lot about this "host country" thing. What is it? Why can't I pick my own country? There will be special events done with these countries.
For the obvious: You will get the dice according which host country you have picked. There are in total 4 countries in the region: Austria, Germany, Switzerland and Liechtenstein.
Since Liechtenstein is the smalles country they are special, so we came up with a special raffle in order to get these very limited dice set.
The dice sets of Austria, Switzerland, and Germany are also limited, but not as much as the Liechtenstein dice. The idea is to swap dice with your opponents to get at least a dice from all host countries and if no-one wants to trade, you can always buy a full set of each country at our dice sponsors Akaro dice right at the event (but not the Liechtenstein dice). There will also be bragging rights which host country fields the best squad or best single coach. There will be round events happening, and some will involve the host country pick.... so choose wisely and enjoy the ride.

If a coach want to play the Thornpear Valleyshockers at the World Cup, they can write an email with their intention and we will ship the team to them. They just have to pay for postage 11.50€ and also put in a deposit of 50€, which they will get back if they have their roster submitted and show up with the team at the event. Otherwise the 50€ will be kept as Pre-Tourney Premium. This is valid only for the resin version of the team.

Today is a day to remember the good ol' days, when the World Cup was a small, family atmospheric event and was still considered the largest Blood Bowl tournamnet ever. Nowadays, numbers of certain tournaments in Spain and France reach the numbers easily, at least it seems so. Then Andrea Parella came and organized the World Cup in Lucca at a time when Blood Bowl wasn't supported for years and people believed it was going to die. Andrea Parella and his group put an event together that not only doubled the numbers of the previous World Cup, but the organization went flawless and it left coaches and visitors in awe for the weeks and months afterwards. Many people believe that the World Cup in Lucca opened the eyes of Games Workshop about what great product they had ignored for the past years. Lucca was an impressive display of how great the Blood Bowl community is and that they stick together, supported or not, and enjoy an extended weekend of not only playing the game they love (and/or hate), but meeting friends, making new friends from other countries and continents, and have a beer (or water for the poor designated driver souls) with their opponents and laugh about their mishaps when Nuffle showed them their boundaries.

Let me personally thank Andrea and his team again for the great Blood Bowl event they have organized and I hope that people will enjoy Dornbirn as much as they have enjoyed Lucca, just with even more Blood Bowlers, because today Lucca became only the second largest tournament in the World. Congratulations to winning the silver medal and I hope in 4 years time my team and I can feel as proud as him to be "only" second.

Three months after registration started we have 1171 coaches registered. There are 185 squads, where 7 squads come with 7 coaches. In addition there are 53 single sign-ups, which will be put together into 9 additional squads.

These coaches come from 5 continents and 32 countries, with 2 countries still putting squads together. There will be 7 new countries countries compared to any previous World Cup, while 2 countries have not signed up coaches, who were in Lucca.

A special mentioning of our Top 10 (relative and absolute compared to Lucca):

Countries with the highest increase in percentage (only countries which have sent 10+ coaches to Lucca)
1. USA +192%
2. GER +182%
3. AUT +117%
4. ENG +91%
5. SWE +90%
6. POR +78%
7. BEL +58%
8. SWI +56%
9. NED +46%
10. FRA +28%

Countries who send the highest absolute increase of coaches compared to Lucca
1. GER +109
2. FRA/ENG +52
4. POL +24
5. USA +23
6. SWE +18
7. AUT +14
8. BEL +11
9. MAL +10
10. POR/NOR/CZE +7

The Rules Committee of the World Cup has come together and decided to drop the Average-Tier-Tiebreaker. The reasoning behind that is that results of tourneys, which use the WC4 ruleset, have shown that the tiers 1-3 are very equal in success and a further boost of lower tiers, which the average-tier-tiebreaker would have provided would be too much. Also worth mentioning is that the rules will be according to the latest NAF annual review of tournament rules, i.e. only starplayers which are mentioned in CRP, BB2016, DZ1, DZ2 and Spike!-Journals 1-3 will be available at the World Cup. Any new starplayer mentioned in later Spike! Journals (most recently the Undead Spike!) will not be eligible at the World Cup in Dornbirn. It is also worth mentioning that the Piling On rule will be used according to CRP (no Re-Rolls needed).

The updated Excel sheet is also available now on the Webpage. Unless any errors will be reported on that Excel sheet, the version v3.0 will be used and to make it clear: the usage is mandatory, no previous version or paper copy scan or PDF format will be accepted when submitting the team rosters in August.

Wow.

Amazing stuff.

I will use your updated rules at the CCKO this month. I am sad to see the tiebreaker go but i can believe the rationale to be true.

Final numbers will be published on the weekend, since some people have not paid yet and they might be dropped from the list.
On the other hand, we have started to send the first wave of emails in regards to squad assemblies from the single sign-ups. This will also be completed until the weekend.

Busy times for the orga right now, so please be patient when waiting on an answer to your mails/questions.

While people are waiting for the publication of the final numbers, here is some reading material:

GAME TIME:
The orga, the refs and the NAF committee have been taking about the need of chess clocks. Here is the guideline we came up with:
- There is no necessity for a mandatory chess clock for every game.
- Every coach has the right to ask their opponents to use a chess clock for the game, but he opponent has the right to refuse. This has to be accepted.
- The referees will supervise all games and tell coaches if they are running into a major delay.
- After 1 hour of game time, a coach may demand the use of a chess clock if the referee is the opinion that the game is delayed to an extend that they would not finish in time (the decision about being delayes is with the referees, not the coaches)

TOLL ROADS
If you are travelling by car, please be advised that you need to pay toll stickers for Switzerland and Austria if you want to use the Autobahn. If you come from Zurich, an Austrian sticker might not be needed, unless you plan to do some sight seeing in Germany or Southern Vorarlberg. If you come from Germany, it is highly recommended to take a 10-day sticker. There is a way through the cities, but it's highly stressfull if you have travelled already seveal hours. I would not trust Google maps on driving time through Bregenz and Lauterach.

AIRPORT SHUTTLE BUS
We will offer shuttle buses from Zurich airport on October 3 and October 7. A one-way-ticket will cost not more than 25 EUR. For the other airports the demand was not big enough to rent a bus. We will work out other means of transportation from Munich, Stuttgart, Memmingen and Friedrichshafen airports. Please take a look at the website after April 16, we will put up a shuttle bus booking page.

SHUTTLES BUSSES during the event.
There will be shuttle busses going every 30min to our partner hotels in Dornbirn, Bregenz and Hard. The shuttle busses will be running just before game time and then in the evening again. We ask all coaches to also use the early busses and not everybody cram into the last bus (that will not work). Coaches who are not staying in the partner hotels, can also use the shuttles, but have to walk to the bus stops. A map with all the bus stops will be published in summer.

SQUAD AND COACH LISTS
Due to the fairly strict European data protection laws, we will only publish a list of squad names later this month. Coach nicknames will only be published after a coach has given their written consent. Forms will be provided on the website later this month. For all the people moaning: In Lucca there was no coach list published as well, so stop whining Wink

DICE
Every coach will get a dice set of 6 dice: 3 Block dice, 2 six sided dice and 1 eight sided die. The dice are made by official partner Akaro Dice, which will also be present at the event. While the use of these dice is not mandatory, we kindly ask you to use them during the event to avoid possible discussions about broken or shaved dice. We also highly recommend to use a dice cup (not plastic withou felt inside) or a dice tower for the same reason. Also, discuss BEFORE a game about what is considered a cocked or stacked dice and how you will handle it (all dice rolled again or only the cocked/stacked ones)

MUSIC
We will have a special Hurry-Up song composed by Holger Seidemann of musicSound®. Once you hear that song, it's time to get your game done fast. Holger will also compose a special World Cup Hymn for us.

Final numbers after Registration has closed:

1429 Coaches from 38 countries, 6 continents in 235 Squads competing for the World Cup trophy.

19 Squads have 7 coaches, there will be a threesome game each round.

In order to compensate for short notice drop-outs or no shows, there will be 3 temporary squads of single sign-up coaches, which will be distributed to fill in the gaps as well as playing Orga-members. The 19 7-coach-squads will also be asked to help out with their "spare coach" in case there are more than 20 gaps to fill.

Most Squads have gotten their tournament ticket vouchers, the remaining squads will get their vouchers in the week after April 16.

Stay tuned for more

One big request to all the attending coaches out there: If you change your NAF nickname between now and the event, please inform the WC4 organizers about it since we are preparing the tourney match recording database now and and any mismatch would cause a major headache.

After a long wait, many discussions, fight, reconsiderations and beers we have finally got to a conclusion on the SKILL MARKERS. Please check them out on the World Cup website in the rules section.

PLEASE NOTE: It might appear that the following list is over-engineered, and people might feel uncomfortable to have almost every single skill color-coded and, in some cases, it seems pointless to follow the color code, e.g. a Minotaur with Claw-Piling On will be fairly obvious. Please keep in mind that this is a huge event, not all coaches speak English sufficiently enough and there will be a fair amount of miscommunication happening. The organizers are well aware of the stringent nature of this list, but it is believed that a well-defined color chart will help to avoid misunderstandings between coaches and we kindly ask to respect this.

Great news update on the venue: Due to the fact that we are entirely sold out, the event would have been really cosy and you would have got to know your neighboring coach pretty well. Sorry all, but we have added a second hall.

The event will happen in Mohren Hall 13, the Foyer 13/14 and Hall 14. That way we can relax the seating situation, give the vendors more space in the Foyer and move the Food distribution to hall 14. The game tables will be in Mohren Hall 13 and 14. There will be a huge video screen available in both halls and all the announcements will be audible in both halls as well.

There are no plans to take more coaches!!! (other than replacements for drop-outs)

Hi! The description of the bases are magnetic. Should I do a quick install of magnets into the bottom of my bases for them to stick? Will polarity be an issue? Thanks!

you can do an install of magnets into the bases if you like, but it is not mandatory. For those people who do not have magnets in their bases we will provide a self-adhesive magnetic foil. The skill markers itself, will be equipped with a Ferro-foil.

version 3.2.1 of the squad rosters is now available for download. This version checks if at least 11 regular players have been hired before adding a starplayer. Thanks to Comfrance to point this out to us.

don't wait until the last minute..... only 9 days left for roster submission
Twyllenimor - Aug 09, 2019 - 11:48 PM

Please be reminded that the deadline for submitting the rosters is next week Friday (August 16). Some of you have submitted their rosters already. If you have submitted your roster to this email address (registration@nafworldcup2019...), please send it again to the official email address worldcup4@sbbm-turniere.com, since it seems that some emails did not get through to us.

Please be also reminded that there will be strict sanctions on squads which have submitted their roster after the 16th. This can be either not allowing any extra skills or us picking rosters for you (and they won't be pleasant to play with).

So please send them in time!

Once we have put them all online (no later than August 30), you will have a chance to look through your rosters online and let us know if there are any errors. You will then have until the 30th August to let us know if there are errors in your rosters; afterwards no corrections will be allowed. Only obvious errors or errors which have occured during upload are valid errors -- this will NOT be a possibility to artificially extend the roster submission deadline.

Especially coaches participating at the German Team Bowl are strongly reminded about the deadline on the 16th and NOT after the GTB is over.

On a less strict topic: Airport shuttle bus booking page will be closed on September 1. No bookings can be done afterwards since we will have to book the busses on September 2.

Please remember to send the rosters to worldcup4@sbbm-turniere.com and use version 3.2.2 if possible.

Dear Captains and Coaches of the World Cup,

the rosters have now all been uploaded. Despite our efforts to check every single one for mistakes, we can't guarantee that there aren't any in there. You have now until August 30, 2019 to review your rosters (and the rosters of all the others if you have some spare time on your hands) and report any mistakes. Again, this is not an opportuntity to change your roster, only obvious errors will be correct. This also includes mistakes of your captain, when he gathered the information from you. IF you can prove that he gave you the wrong skill sets, forward me the email with the evidence.

On the World Cup website, go to Info -> Registered Coaches and look for your squad. (there is no search funtion YET)

One important topic is replacing dropped out coaches. Once you know that a coach can't make it to the World Cup, please inform us as soon as you know it and let us know if you have a replacement coach or if you need us to give you a subsitute coach. In all cases, let us know your squad ID in the email. If you have a replacement, we need the full information: full name, NAF-name and -number, nationality, shirt size, food choice, medical issues (incl. any food allergies or handicaps or other important things).

Please be also reminded about the deadline for the shuttle busses. If you have not signed up, please do so on the website. Everybody will be contacted about their bus/train schedule in the first week of September.

Cheers
Torsten
