Background

The Midlands Tournament Series (MTS) will be back for its third year in 2024 after a break due to Covid.

A tournament series is a competition where coaches compete to achieve the best score over a number of different tournaments.

The Midlands series will include events which are within the geographic East and West Midlands areas which includes the following counties:

Derbyshire, Herefordshire, Leicestershire, Lincolnshire, Northamptonshire,Nottinghamshire, , Rutland, Shropshire, Staffordshire, Warwickshire, West Midlands and Worcestershire

The MTS is an open event we have identified some initial events to fill out the calendar but the MTS organising committee are seeking additional events to provide as far as possible a good geographical and calendar spread across the midlands area.

If you are a TO who would like to be included within the MTS please contact the organising committee please note it will not be possible to include all events. Any events accepted into the MTS will be approved on a first come first served basis, based on the date of NAF approval. Any event included in the MTS must :

• Within the Midlands region, see above.
• Have capacity for at least 24 coaches
• 11s tournaments only
• Singles tournaments only – no team events
• Minimum 2 week gap between events in different counties - to provide space and opportunity for coaches to attend as many events as possible
• Minimum 6 week gap between events in the same county - to provide a geographical spread as far as possible
• The NAF Championship will not be included.
• Must be NAF approved at time of inclusion
• Must inform TSO (Dodge22) of their desire to be included in the series at least 2 months before the event
• No new events will be accepted within 3 months of the series end date
• Commit to providing results to the TSO within 1 week of the event finishing.

The MTS is run over a NAFC year with the event launching in May each year with awards to be handed out at the NAFC event following the end of the series. This series will run from May 2024 to April 2025.

The MTS organising committee are: Dodge22 (Tournament Series Organiser), Danny, Deeferdan and LittleYoshi1979. The best place to find out about the MTS is the Midlands BloodBowl discord.

The Events

The MTS will consist of between 6 and 15 events per year. To be included in the rankings for the MTS a coach must compete in a minimum or three events.

Only a coach's top 3 scores will count towards a coach's final standings no matter how many events they attend. For the stunty cup you must compete in at least two events using a stunty team and your top two scores will count.

25/26 May - Double Draft - This is two one day events, if you attend both days your best score from either day will count only.

20/21 July - Davotational

26th October - Stanglebowl

9th November - Tourno los Muertos

30th November - West Middenland Open

January (TBC) - Stone Bowl

9th March (TBC) - Dodge Bowl

Coach Requirements, Prizes and Scoring

To be included within the MTS you must be a NAF member regardless of any tournament requirements.

Prizes are provided by NAF and there will be a prize for 1st, 2nd, 3rd and Stunty Cup.

Coaches receive the following points based on their ranking:

+10 to +1 points for top 10 placement, on a declining scale. In other words, a 1st place finish is worth 10 points, a 2nd place finish is worth 9 points and so on, down to a 10th place finish being worth 1 point.

Should there be fewer than 10 coaches (it happens!), the maximum score is equal to the total number of participants, declining as usual. That means winning a tournament with 6 participants results in 6 points for 1st place, 5 points for 2nd place, and so on.

+1 point per full 10 places below them in the standings capped at a maximum of 5. Examples: A coach finishing 1st in a 32-coach tournament receives a bonus of +3 because there are 30+ coaches below. Finishing 13th in the very same tournament gives 1 bonus point, as there are 19 coaches below. A coach finishing first in a 10-coach tournament receives no bonus as there are only 9 coaches below.

+1 point per day of the tournament. Given to all participants.
+2 points for each win and 1 point for each draw

Coaches receive 0.1 points for each tournament they participate in. This score is taken in whole and is not reduced to "best 3" as with other scores. So, someone who participated in 9 tournaments might have a total score of 30.9.

Tiebreakers

Total number of Series Tournament Champion wins (1st place finishes)
Total number of Series Tournament Match wins
Fewest Tournament Match defeats
Most Tournament Matches played
4th highest Tournament score; then 5th, 6th etc until a winner is determined
