I can't see anything in the rules that says you have to use it, just that being a trait you may use it more than once per turn.

In my opinion you should have to use it if you have it though, a hard to budge player won't suddenly decide to be pushed for a change.

This was covered in the official Q&A that goes with LRB v2.0

"the description of Frenzy states that a player must use it, while others (such as Stand Firm) do not".

Since they specifically mentioned Stand Firm it is clear that it is optional even though the rule wording says "this player is never pushed back".

Yes, this is correct. This means that if you don't want to use strip ball on the first block, you can then decide to use it on the second.
