All of you experienced Skaven coaches....what is your ideal $1M starting roster for league play? Just looking for some opinions. Right now I'm leaning towards:

5 Linemen @50k = 250k
2 Throwers @ 70k = 140k
2 Gutter Runners @ 80k = 160k
2 Storm Vermin @90k = 180k
3 Re-Rolls @60k = 180k
9 Fan Factor @10k = 90k
-------------------------------------
$1M

Thanks!
Rob

Drop one Thrower, reduce FF to 6.
Buy an Apo, and a Linerat

You nailed my favorite roster. First priority is an apothecary, then you start ramping up the Gutter Runners in between replacing your dying linerats.

My last Skaven league team was:

5x Linerats (250K)
1x Thrower (70K)
2x Gutter Runners (160K)
2x Storm Vermin (180K)
1x Rat Ogre (130K)
2x Rerolls (120K)
9x Fan Factor (90K)

It's a bit risky with only 11 players and no Apothecary, but I'm not really concerned with injuries to start unless someone is killed (which is relatively uncommon in the first few league games). First purchase is Apothecary, next is GR, Thrower, GR, Linerat ad infinitum (or at least until the roster is filled...)

As for the Rat Ogre:
I know debate runs hot on whether they are worth it at all... Wild Animal can really mess with a team from time to time. Personally, I like them and think they are fun to have, though by no means mandatory to a successful Skaven team. While the current Skaven players in my league have not started with one (planning to possibly get one later), I'm of the opinion that if you are going to have one at all you should start with him, before your opponents get too many skills to deal with him. Get him Block asap, and have fun!!!

I think your plan is sound. 9 FF and 3 RRs are practically manditory for league play, as well as the two vermin to start. Get an apoth and fill out on GRs then Linerats.

I took an all rookie skaven team to the Blood Bowl this year, and with hindsight I have to say, I think I should have chosen the team slightly differently. Here's what I took:

6 x Linerats
2 x Throwers
3 x Gutter Runners
2 x Storm Vermin
1 x Re-roll
2 x FF
Apothecary

Oh, and a cheerleader (Just coz I had one )

I have to say that the Storm Vermin are essential - a player with GUARD on the front line really messes with your opponents plans. I don't think that you need two throwers to start, but with only two gutter runners, you might find that they run out . The apothecary is essential. On more than one occasion, it saved me from resounding defeat by keping a gutter runner alive and on the pitch at the far end (though it didn't save me from just the normal, everyday defeat). DEFINITELY more than 1 re-roll, and yes, for league play, go for the big FF. But I have to say, in tourney play, spend the dosh on players, you're going to need them.

Can't comment on big guys, but I imagine that it would be a psychological bonus over your opponent, if not actually good value for money.

Anyroadup, good luck with the rats, and I hope your throwers are better than mine - they failed to pick up the ball NINE times over the weekend!

I take as startup:

1 Rat Ogre
4 Gutter Runners
2 Stormvermin
3 LineRatts
1 Thrower

1 Re-roll
9 FF

No apocathary since all healed between rounds. Its a risk, but I am willing to take it. Gives a fast team, and a strong center line.

Outside Tourney, I still take risk of no apocathary in the first game. Odds are I won't get hurt if I play a new team. I can buy the apocathary after my first game. It's all a risk, but so is the whole game.

I always choose high fan factor since my luck for increasing FF stinks. I have won 30 games out of 35 and have 1 less fan factor that what I started with. I hate the unmodified die roll of 1. Confused

I think you need more Gutter Runners in your starting roster.

Cheers
