I've seen some great pics of minis, both as peoples avatars and elsewhere, but I cannot seem to replicate the quality of the pics, no matter how I try!

How do you do it!

I've tried using my webcam, which can't focus on anything small than a frickin' barn, and even my Dad's decent digital camera couldn't focus

Should I use a normal camera and scan the pictures?

Digital cameras with around 2 megapixels should work pretty well. Just don't use a flash and make sure it's not focusing on something other than the minis.

For my pics on coolminiornot I used a camera from a friend of mine. I believe it's called a Canon Powershot (?), something like that. It makes incredibily good pictures but they're about 5 Mb each Smile At college we have a old digital camera from Sony which I'm gonna try out Friday to make some snaps of my Nurgle conversions, but I don't think the quality will be very stunning.
You can also scan your models (I've done that with my cheerleader and the results turned out quite okay, but it could've been better though...)

There are some great articles on coolminiornot.com. Look under the General-Photography section.

http://www.coolminiornot.com/go.php?go=articlephp&expand=all&orderby=recent&levels=99

For me the basics are:

*Digital camera with macro mode (i.e will focus ok when 10-15cm away from mini).
    *Turn flash off camera.
*Use neutral background - sheet of white paper, I've used the grey foam from my minature case before, find what suits you best.
*Use a lamp/lamps to light mini.
*Use software like Photoshop to crop image and adjust colour/brightness/contrast levels if it's out of wack.

Here's my latest posting:

Feel free to give me a good score!! Wink

Happy snapping!

Woohoo, new member here...

ok, try this: use the Macro feature on your digital camera. It allows for closeups to be shot clearly. Next, tweak the pic in an editor, like Photoshop.

hmmm... now I have to remember the url for my avatar. Sad

You can also scan the mini's themselves, it's quicker and cheaper compared to scanning photo's (but the quality is often less...)

You need to get them onto somewhere on the web and then reference the URL for the image.

Yup, go to lycos.com to get some free webspace. It looks kinda crap but it works fine if you just want to link things.
