We are running a small league and after the first round of games we are thinking about playing a small tournament before heading into the second round.
We don't have a lot of experience which rules to use in this case. So I would be happy for any suggestions on the matter.
(We would like to let the games take place during the league (so spp and injuries schould apply).)

You'll need to pick a method of progression that suits the numbers in your league.
Giving free passes to high TV teams, letting best losing sides through or standard play offs can all work to keep numbers even and divisble by 4 (for the semi finals).
Also worth making sure everyone is familiar with the rules for overtime if draws are allowed in your league structure.

The numbers are quiet simple: We have 8 coaches so 3 rounds in a K.O.-System can be played.

ONe way to intermingle the two would be to have the first round of the tourney before the second league game

Those that get through play their second tournament game in between league game two and three (you may also want to allow knocked out teams to play a friendly to keep the spp evenish). The final could then be any time after game three.

Keeps it relatively simple, and the tension of two cups to play for lasts a bit longer Smile

That is also a nice idea. I was also wondering about the aspect of knocked-out players not getting any spp.
Giving them other games by playing a friendly match or even a lucky-looser round sounds good as well.

if you run the tourney Swiss Style, everyone gets the same number of games and you still get clear victors...

swiss pairings sounds interesting although with so few participants how would you keep the motivation there?

motivation?

how do you motivate them during the league?

they're still competing for top slot,
it's just adjusted so that someone defeated in the first round might still manage 3rd place even in big groups...

really, all swiss style gives, is a round-robin (everyone plays everyone) with an elimination style filter. so instead of 8 people having to play 56 matches... you have 3 rounds to prove yourself.

so the top rank is the guy that went 3-0
the second is the guy that went 2-1 against the "more victorious" opponents
and so forth...

You may also wish to consider running a non-standard tournament, such as Street Bowl or Beach Bowl or Dungeon Bowl.
