Post subject: OFF TOPIC: seeking Scotis advices for a golf trip !!!

Hi there!
We are 4 friends planning a golf vacation in Scotland (yeah! Finally!). We are at the most early stages of things, but still, we can only find the big courses (St. Andrews, Carnoustie, Gleneagles, etc.).
Yes, St. Andrews will be played (that's the main goal of this trip), but we were wondering: our friends in Scotland must not spend 200 £ everytime they shoot a round of golf?
So I am here asking for your suggestions of golf courses. Give the name of the place you'd bring Canadian friends for a round if we were to be visiting!
Any lodging suggestions, side treks (like visits of distilleries), pubs (we need a huge list of these!) are also welcomed.
