If you have diving catch can you throw the ball to one space in front of you and, if accurate, use diving catch to make a completion to yourself for a cheap extra point of movement?

No. The wording of the skill is quite clear the throw has to be to the DC player, and missed. A throw to an adjacent square is just that, to the square.

Also, to get an SPP, the pass needs to be caught be a teammate, not the thrower himself (read the rules for completions). I recently threw a one-square pass to a teammate who failed the catch, and the ball bounced back to the thrower who caught it. It wasn't a turnover, but it wasn't a completion either.

Perhaps it is our interpretation but in our league that would be a turnover, if a player fails to CATCH the ball and then bounces anywhere including to a team mate it is surely still a turnover as all the other player has done in effect is recovered a fumble Exclamation . In the same vain if you aim the pass at an empty square and it bounces to your player it is still a turnover Confused . If an inaccurate pass scatters to your player before an attempted catch the Ball HAS NOT touched the ground and if caught then you may continue. Idea

Yep, you're houseruling it.

If a ball is passed (ie not fumbled), it's not a turnover as long as the ball comes to rest in the hands of one of your team, including the thrower. The ball can even go out of play and be thrown in by the crowd. And if the original throw was accurate (and as long as it doesn't end up with the thrower) it's a completion.

We played that way when we first got our league going.

If we had read the rules better we may have come to the correct
conclusion --- however, the simple sentence below was quite poignant:

"Its not American Football"

Thats how we were looking at it, as if it was gridiron set in the WH world.

Ok I have just checked the rule book and agree, one more question just to clarify, if during the bouncing of the ball it comes to an opposing player and they catch it does that indicate an interception, as indicated on page 14, awarded I would say no, but the blurb?

I'd say no, but I havent thought about it before ---- I mean its -2 to intercept,
but there are no negative modifiers on a strait catch roll.

You have to declare & work out the intercept attempt before the ball is thrown
under the current rules (seems strange to a lot of people).

I'd say "no" on the interception. The 2 SPPs are there for making a difficult (and defined) roll that comes up only rarely.

I think that pg 14 just needs to have the sentence about jumping up and down and yelling interception removed and everything is fine.

Agreed. A bouncing ball catch (no modifier) is a far cry from an interception (-2) and the interception is pretty well defined in the LRB.

Another Diving Catch Question.

The ball is thrown and ends up in an adjacent squre to the thrower. Using his "Skill" he catches the ball, but in which square:

1. Where the player was

or

2. Where the ball was

Having read and re-read this several times I err for option 1, but can anybody point out where to find this in the rules, or is there a house ruling that covers it instead.

I have already thought of some of the novelties that may appear from this, e.g. pass to a player who is in the end zone, but deliberately pass to the square in front of him (maybe that is the max range of a Bomb). The catcher will still have 6 opportunities to catch the ball, and with his extending/retracting arms score a TD! Personally I feel this is a bit over the top, but if thats what the rule says.......................?

If you look at the rules it says he catches the ball as if it had landed in his square.

That's the part of the rule that you need to answer your question.

So the answer to your question is option 1 ... "Where the player was"
