I have just received the Blood Bowl game from e-bay. The plastic figures have been painted with a gloss paint and I was wondering wether someone had ever managed to stripp paint from plastics, especially gloss paint. I have some nitromors but maybe that is a bit strong?

if you use nitromors, then say goodbye to em.

I've heard that brake fluid works, though i haven't tried it yet.

Maybe tonight when my neighbours asleep, I'll go get me some Wink

I've done the break fluid thing myself, and it works out okay. It end up darker plastic, and not all of the primer came off, but they are good enough for re-painting, and no loss of detail. Not so sure about glossy paint, though.

i have used brake fluid on model cars with enamel paint and it worked fine. the paint came off and no damage to the plastic. not sure if your "glossy" paint is enamel, but just in case, brake fluid works.

I was just over a buddys house that he was stripping paint off a metal mini with Pine Sol, a house hold cleaner. He also mentioned to use Alachol for plastics. Let it sit for about a day or 2 then brush off with a tooth brush. Clean off with water and let dry before you primer. If I didn't see it I wouldn't believe it.

BTW, Not Alachol you drink. The one you use to clean cuts and abrasions.

I have had great luck with brake fluid (I have used DOT III & IV both with success), the key though is to be sure and neutralise it after your done stripping. Soak it overnight in the brake fluid, scrub it down with a soft tooth brush, then soak it over night again in rubbing alcohol to remove the brake fluid. I failed to do this once and the brake fluid seeped out from glued joints under the fresh paint, blistering it till it sloughed off. It hasn't damaged any of the plastic minis I have done but as someone else noted it may darken them a bit, not really a problem. . .

don't use pine sol on plastics, it will most definitely melt the plastic. the first batch of metal minis u sed pine sol to strip needed all new bases.

My friend uses break fluid and it seems to work very well.
I found that on metal mini's Gasoline/Petrol works great and fast.
I soaked several beastman for about 3-4 hours and paint came right off.
Didnt notice any problems with the detail.
However I would suggest you take off the bases unless they are metal as they will break down just as fast if not faster then the paint.

Mind you I have only used gas on minis 3times so perhaps others have had other results.

this is a trade secret - wise old man who told me was even going to try selling a info pack on ebay

...
a) buy detol (uk based product to clean)
b) leave figs in detol pot for a week (very important to use a good jar with plenty of history - curry my fav)
c) get figs out pot and scrub with toothbrush. unlike other more industrial chemicals the detol is very gentle. If you brush with a gentle action the paint will come like removing a layer of skin. very gentle easing and brush away from detail (chainmail, hair) to ensure not adding paint back.
d) pretty much there after removed skin just scrub away at any bits tucked away in joints.
e) pretty much finished. to get a clean figures now rinse under luke warm tap and scrub at same time with toothbrush. most of my current figs look more like silver than dull lead if use water at end.

this method works equally on lead and plastic! actually seen someone strip an old hex base and its now fully healthy after years of abuse.
Really this is best method Pow
