Guard should be a skill. It if wasn't then there would be no chance for non-strength teams to be able to get it. That would make it even more powerful for the teams that already get access to the skill as a generic. My league we over this discussion for weeks and it would be even more dangerous as a strenth trait; which is exactly what it would be. At least as a skill I can have a chance at getting it for my woodie line elves and others like them.

Guard is a great skill to have and does make dwarves very tough, but not invincible. I do know what I'm talking about here becuase I just got done playing dwarves for the last two years and every longbeard with the exception of 1 or 2 had guard and my line was dangerous; but not impossible to get through. It just takes more thinking to get it done is all.

It should be a skill for all the reasons mentioned above. Fluff wise, it shows that as a player becomes better at playing BB he gains game specific attributes. Things like block, guard and tackle are all exclusive to BB and would have no effect on a WFB battlefield for example.
Not sure I have made that last point very well, but hey... |

Oh please, Guard does not at all make Dwarves invincible, it lets them compete (somewhat) with Agi teams
Besides, it is a fool Dwarf coach that takes Guard all the time (as their 1st skill). Guard is better saved as a 2nd or 3rd skill. The 1st 2 should be Pile On/Mighty Blow to help rack up CAS SPP's.
Yesyes, you can argue all you like about putting dwarves on the ground, but the fact remains; Dwarves are one of the slowest developing teams, due to their lack of speed (lower TD's per game) and lack of AGI (few COMP's and virtually no INT's). The only thing that they have going for them is the sheer fact that they stay on the pitch, hurting the other team. These skills allow them to "raise the bar", increasing the value of their lone strength. |
