I think Smeborg (Paul Deacon) will be. Gave him the same advice.

Yes, Ian, I'm staying in the F1 too.

Cheers

Both Em and I will be there (despite having to borrow money to enter. $44 are they kidding or what?!!). Was gonna do ogres but couldn't afford to get the minis in time. Either lizards or Chaos Dwarves I think.

$44 didn't sound that unreasonable to me - a typical 2 day tourney in Europe is around $60. Saying that Spaniards riot if they have to pay more than 10 euros.

Well given that most cons charge around $30 it was a bit rude. If we didn't have family to stay with in the ACT we wouldn't be going!

I agree with Abigwood. $44 is very expensive and despite my pleas for discounts they still charge that much.

MOAB on the other hand is much more reasonable.

One thing that surprised me was the rip off prices for coffee & hot dogs etc. Someone is making a tidy little sum from us there.

It's because the convention site runs the stand. CanCon have nothing to do with the food supply. It's all staffed and run by the site (EPIC), not CanCon.

This is completely unlike MOAB, where volunteers man the canteen (in a high school sense), and most of the profits for the Convention come from ... the canteen (believe it or not).

Still its a great tournament. What bothers me is not the money - its the feeling I'm being ripped off.

Maybe you should give the organisers some feedback - say you feel that it hurts the attendence and ask whether they'd either negoiate with EPIC or look at a different venue.

BTW the MOAB data is all in the PBBL Results database now.

It's been tried. The organisers are infallible (at least according to them). The MOAB guys are much more approachable. MOAB overall has a much more 'family' sort of feel. The hotdogs rock too!

OI, you lot - there is another Convention - 5 games over two days - in the far more livable Melbourne. Being civilised, this means drinking time is a surety!

Ah, Melbourne, perpetual home of the Cancon BB Trophy ... even when half the damn Melbournites go off shagging themselves so silly they forget there is a comp on! Rolling Eyes

Have a look in the Tournaments area, whenever the Babs decides to approve it Mr. Green

Give me a break! It's approved OK!

Results for CanCon are in - I'm just waiting for the 'magic stamp of approval' from someone with more authority than me to 'make it so' and then visible to everyone and update the rankings.

...and the only reason Melbourne wins it is because I'm not playing Smile Smile Smile :0

As to a discount: I managed it for one year only (2003). Now I'm told that that's "a bargain" and not to complain as it won't change.

Frankly, if it doesn't change in 2006 then it might start looking a little more reasonable (after all it's been $44 for 3 years and inflation happens).
